... to try it of course. Tastes very "metalish". It's also said to cure gluttony so I should be skinny in about 30 days! The schedule with this tour is tight so we only had time to grab a quick ice cream and then get to the bus. While waiting for ours to pull up, I experienced what I now know as Tour Envy. The bus next to us had a fun friendly driver who wasn't a nazi about timing. He was chatting up the people on the bus, ...

... thankfully my group hadn't even boarded the busses yet. There were 4 buses for our one specific tour, clearly a popular one and I ended up on the second bus. I sat next to a very nice Indian lady from Dubai. Windsor Castle was the first stop on the trip and it was about a 1 hour drive but it seemed to go pretty quick. Out tour guide told us some fun facts till we got outside the city then I just enjoyed the view. At Windsor our guide could ...

... like that at all. Occasionally you get that awful feeling that something is amiss, and when the man at the counter asked me for passport (check), credit card (check) and driver's licence (loooooooong pause, and commence hollow feeling in the tummy). For security on the continent (as recommended), I got a small RFID protected wallet - to prevent crims from scanning your chipped cards as they pass by. So, I'd thinned out the contents rather drastically, ...

... Guinness together and a chat while watching the TV a little bit, then after a few hours we headed out together for some food. We ended up going back to the Chicken Spot (yes, again!) for a £2.50 pizza each, where we ordered then went down to a pub for a beer while we waited. We had a beer together and a bit more of a chat, then Darren and I left to get our pizzas, and said goodbye to Hinn, who decided to stay and drink his beer slowly and ...

... down to Harvey Nic's to meet Leon Diamond and his gorgeous daughter Belle - My sister in Law's brother and have some lunch a Wagamama. It was great to catch up. Then we all took a stroll down to Harrods to look at the famous food hall, in search of ice cream... let me tell you I think that palace has everything BUT ice creams, so we bid them both farewell and went exploring again. What a place! We all settled on the cupcake/cake area. The boys were satisfied with ...

    Harte & Garter Wndsor

Located across the street from Windsor Castle, the Harte & Garter provides a perfect stay for you visit.

Excellent customer service with nicely appointed rooms, and within waling distance to everything. I chose a less expensive room and was very satisfied. The pricier rooms are larger, and many have a view of Windsor Castle.

I will stay there again on my next visit.

Terrible service that makes the £75 million refurbishment a waste

    from

We've just got back from visiting the Harte & Gartner, which has recently reopened following an enormously expensive refurbishment and being closed for months.

    Perfect three days away

    from

My mother and I booked two nights at the Harte & Garter in April 2006, on the recommendation of my brother who had attended a business meeting there.

Charming hotel with great service in an unbeatable location

    from

First thanks have to go to the manager, Ann Marie for making our stay so comfortable and for being so helpful. Our room was spacious and gorgeous and overlooked the castle. Everything was spotless and we recovered from jet lag in a super comfortable bed. This hotel is right in the middle of Windsor and you are close to everything, including the train station into London.

Here's the best bit: I left my jacket at the hotel and called to give them my credit card number to pay for the postage. They mailed the jacket immediately and refused to charge my card. "It was only three pounds," I was told. So nice and considerate.

OK but I'm sure they're better hotels

    from

Stayed here for one night for a wedding. Room was 70 quid room/only and because I'd specifically requested it they were kind enough to get my room cleaned early so as to let me check in early although it had been noted that 'I had been told that there was no guarantee'.

    Great location - traditional hotel

    from

We stayed for 2 nights at Ye Harte and Garter which probably has the best location in town if you want to be near the castle, shopping, etc. although Windsor is very small and nothing's too far away. It's four stories of rooms with the High Street side having direct views of Windsor Castle - the Train Station is on the left as you exit the hotel and the outdoor pedestrian shopping mall is on the right. The rooms seemed to vary considerably in size - we had a smallish room for 4 on the 4th floor - and my parents had a very large room for 2 on the third but they were quite comfortable. It's B&B so there's breakfast served in the restaurant every morning - which was a cold buffet (cereal, juice etc) or hot food off the menu for eggs, bacon, toast. It was a typical English breakfast. The hotel staff was very accomodating - the only drawback is noise seems to bounce off the walls of the castle??? and right into the rooms at night. This was perfect for our family for the 2 nights -price was right and the location was great! We stood in the window of my parents room and watched the changing of the guard (marching down High St and into the castle).

What fabulous views of Windsor Castle!

    from

This is the closest hotel to the Castle, and is on the High street in the centre of town, right opposite the main castle entrance. It was next to the railway station, but we never heard any trains, it is also adjacent to a great shopping centre and is a short walk to the river. There is no parking available at the Hotel - just 2 drop off bays but parking is on hand in the multi-storey car park, which costs only £6 per day and is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. I booked direct with the hotel and got a fantastic bargain, as they had no standard rooms left, they upgraded us to an executive room at the same cost as a standard room. Our room (307) was on 3rd floor at the front of the hotel and was large and comfortable, the view was great as we were right opposite the main castle driveway. The room was clean, warm, and well maintained and ours contained a bath and a power shower that supplied lovely hot water. There was also a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, extra blankets and pillows, a TV and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was a little noise late at night from passers-by and taxi's but nothing to really stop you sleeping, the hotel is a very old building and does not have double-glazing so it is to be expected! The only negative is that there were no net curtains at the window, so you are in full view of the street and soldiers when you draw back the main curtains. Full English breakfast is available in the Café Restaurant at an extra cost. The hotel has a traditional Fish and Chip restaurant so we decided to eat there at lunchtime. The food was cooked to order, so it was hot and fresh when it arrived at the table. The bar is open to residents and non-residents of the hotel. There is a small lift, so no plodding up 3 flights of stairs!! The hotel has 2 restaurants, one is a carvery restaurant but it only serves food until 9pm. The Café restaurant serves food until 5pm but there are so many other restaurants to try within a very short walk from the hotel. We ate at Zizzi's, which was a 2-minute walk down the high street, and I can thoroughly recommend the food served there. The service from all the staff in the hotel was excellent and I would definitely stay in this hotel again. The Royal Standard Flag flies when the Queen is in residence at the Castle, so make sure to look out for it!

    Very Average

    from

This hotel is a bit ropey. I was given a tiny single room which was dark and depressing, and at a price of 99 pounds I thought it was very pricey. The service was average. The staff were not unfriendly but seemed disinterested and not motivated, even bored.

The best thing is the hotel's location which is right in the middle of town so everything is near at hand, but I doubt if I would go back.

    Good weekend break

    from

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding - and took advantage of the two nights for the price of one weekend offer. The hotel is located opposite Windsor Castle, next to the station, adjacent to the shopping centre and a short walk to the river. Our room (108) was large and comfortable and had a Castle view as do all the rooms on the front - there is some late night noise from the bus stop, taxi pick up and passers by. There is no parking - just a drop off bay - parking is availbale nearby for 6 per day. Windsor is of course on the landing flight path for Heathrow - the planes start to pass over every few minutes from about 6 a.m. Generally the hotel is a little worn in parts but represents very good value for money on a weekend break.

    Charming and Traditional

    from

If you are looking to stay in a place full of olde English charm this is the place for you. Book direct with the hotel for a selection of great deals. Our room (the Tudor twin superior room) was on the top floor (4th floor) right opposite the castle. The rooms could do with updating but were clean and well maintained and ours contained a spa bath. Full English breakfast was included in the room rate (where second night was free = total £170). Hotel has a traditional Fish and Chip restaurant, a Victorian carvery and a bar featuring live music on the Saturday night (very pleasant). Would suit foreign visitors looking for that true English experience. Lifts were not working during our stay (not ideal if you cannot manage loads of stairs). No hotel parking, but you do not need it in Windsor which is well connected by Rail to London. It's the closest hotel to Windsor castle, right on the HIgh street in the middle of everything.

    Great location excellant value

    from

found this hotel on internet, rang hotel directly and got an excellent deal,

a superiour room with fantastic views, spa bath and breakfast, for only 35 pound per person a night, still did not believe it till we finally paid our bill. the rooms were massive with the best views of the castle.

showers and spa baths included, yes the rooms had seen better days but they were clean and well maintained.

and the service from all the staff in the hotel was excellant.

no parking on site, buy we only paid 12 pounds to park

    for the whole weekend.

would recommend this hotel to every body.
