Day 2 on our bikes. The ducks wake us up bright and early. We begin our ride stopping very quickly at an adorable Gasthof for a warm cup of kaffee while waiting for the ferry which didn't arrive! The sweet Austrian lady did try to tell us something... It must have been that the ferry is no longer running! So we continue on the left bank, hoping the terrain remains flat. Riding along past fisherman, tiny little villages and strawberry farms, even an old hippie, ...

Ahh the tranquil Danube valley, the sun burns my scalp while the alpines provide shady refuge, a wonderful feeling of serenity and freedom. We rock up to the town of shlogen (3 buildings) and set up our tent for our first camping night! Tap tap ttttap rain drops start dropping on our tent, ahh the bags! Waking up to the ghostly valley the feeling is quite mystical, clouds placed between the ...

... lunch. I enjoyed the ride but the last 10kms were getting hard work for me. My knees started hurting and there was some tension in my right shoulder blade. It's amazing though to see the different ages and styles of the other riders. One lady just had on court shoes and casual going out clothes. Cycled past no problems at all. She was probably in her late 50's. Probably European. They are all such ...

... from the terrace was wonderful, lush rolling hills, wooded areas then the snow capped alps! We had the equivalent of a plough mans lunch, the produce was from the farm or local farmers. We had home made bread, a very tasty potato spread, different meats and cheeses.plus about five different ciders. A very enjoyable few hours we would have happily stayed. When we returned to the bus I went for a bike ride along the river. It was really interesting as everyone was out ...
