Today was a long travel day thanks to the sequester cuts in air traffic control. I started in the morning rush hour traffic in Los Angeles. Two delayed flights, and an hour wait for the shuttle bus later, I finally made it to my hotel at the Harrisburg airport at 10:00 p.m.
I can't wait to pick up the RV tomorrow morning and settle into …
Today was a mild day weather wise - up in the high teens (deg C) which was lovely even though a little rain. We drive north of Lancaster to Lititz - lots of old quaint buildings/shops. The countryside is dotted with many neat farmhouses and barns. Beautiful. Further on towards Harrisburg for ...
Just goes to show you that one is never to old to learn something new everyday. That is one thing I have learned since I have been on this trip. Now I have got to remember what I have learned to be able to pass it on. One thing that I learned is there are differences in the Amish. One is much stricter. The Amish are the ones that are strict and the Mennonites are somewhat more like the rest of the world. For ...
Started ahead of time (8:30h.). Passed 30 seconds at the border and off we go! Great weather (cold but great). Right after Newburgh NY on the I-87 we see many deer.... Deer Count = 9 plus one not so lucky little guy. Most of them are young ones and are not "street" wise.
Snow everywhere even after we cross over in New Jersey. Lunch and gas. Everything is going ahead of time. The GPS ...

Next I head east just a couple of miles to Biglerville, where it becomes even more evident that this is apple country--there's even a "National Apple Museum". Almost as big as the town itself is what looks like a big apple processing plant. I see a number of Latinos (haven't seen many in other small towns in the county) so I'm guessing orchard work is a draw here for immigrant labour. I ...

I called for the shuttle 3 times and they left me waiting at the airport for nearly an hour. When the shuttle arrived there was a red flashing light on the dash and a beeping sound. The driver assured me I didn't have to worry, there was nothing wrong with the brakes. When we arrived I understood why they weren't answering the phone - the only desk clerk was outside smoking. The lobby TV was loudly playing a telenovela in Spanish. The restaurant and pool were closed. The beds are horribly uncomfortable and I would not want to walk barefoot on the carpet. A piece of the bathroom cabinetry was falling off. Don't stay here unless you absolutely have to.
