12th August 2008 We flew into Bali from Singapore and we only arrived at midnight which was a bit **** as we ended up going straight to our bungalows to sleep and didnt get to look around the place till the next day. We got a pick up from the airport from the place we were staying, Suji bungalows, which was grand as trying to get a taxi would have been a bit more hassle. We were staying in Kuta, the main resort. Suji bungalows looked nice but the one we were in was ****, the bathroom was in b...

... We met up with Jorge & Daniel one of the nights and the other night met a group of Australians, one of which that lived in Bali. They were also hanging out with two Indonesians and I spent a significant portion of the night talking to them in order to learn their culture (all Indonesians have the same four names depending on their birth order in the family) and a few words in Indonesian (which I promptly forgot). That night we ended up at another of the crazy Bali clubs and danced ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia seasiabound... beach because it was disgusting - but they are all there cleaning up the garbage.

The traffic on the way back was bumper to bumper. Along the way we saw a man carrying his wooden toy car that he sits down and the kids get on each of the cars and he peddles them around - just like the mechanical ones we have in shopping centres - things are so basic over here for them! and we didnt get pulled over once! There are cops everywhere - like we have never seen. There ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia kazjohn... 4. Hawkers parade up and down the beach and can become annoying after a while. The closer you move to the sea the less you are hassled. There appears to be some sort of imaginary line that they cannot cross.
5. Most the accommodation is centred around poppies lane’s 1 and 2.
6. Meals out are cheap as you like. An Indonesian meal can set you back as little as one pound.
7. Some hotels offer all you can eat buffet breakfasts. These are for winners.<br ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia shelleyandsimmo... the end Chelsea won, and we were pretty disappointed, but the night was still young!!

Chris decided he would head back to the room for the night because he didn't want to join us clubbing (which he did every night there-after). We headed to the club that everyone seems to go to: Bounty. The club has 3 sections: the first section has several different bars, one of which has karaoke with a live backing band. The 2nd section is a downstairs club, which always seemed to be ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia cereal42... Tara's observation but I agree. The Balinese people tend to smile and laugh a lot and when they do they laugh and smile with their whole face. It's quite nice to witness. It makes me do the same. I've mentioned this before...but I've noticed the lack of locals in Ubud. I've also noticed it's freaking hot and humid it is everyday. Every day. I've never sweated this much in my life. I'm looking forward to returning to SF weather.
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia greld... Bratan, a beautiful lake with an ancient hindu/buddist temple Ulan Danau on the lake shore & on 2 tiny islands on the edge of the lake. All overshadowed by a hideous huge modern mosque glinting in the sunlight! We spent a morning canoing in a dugout with bamboo stabilisers with only 1 & half paddles around the lake before any other tourists had got up & we discovered a lost city on the far shore - it was a holiday resort that had been ...
Lake Bratan, Louisiana, Indonesia cjgr... had shifted location just for me! Luckily I was skint and so could not singlehandedly rape Bali of it's entire cultural heritage, this trip. Settled for as tourist mask and a chessboard which are delightful and very useful, (cough). There should be some photo's on facebook but not sure as it takes me bloody ages and can't be bothered spending my life watching a blank webpage... too dull! The journey home took three times longer than the journey up. This is due to the ...

The following day, feeling surprisingly clear headed, we went for a last look around the shops of Kuta, where Kirsty bought a new bikini. We had also decided to see what all the fuss was about with Indonesian massage. There was a massage place that we had walked past quite regularly who were offering a full body massage for under £2 each ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia jacobandkirsty... later, its almost 100% back. part of the adventure... what else - the weather is hot hot hot. in the 80s and 90s every day and humid. but i love it! even at night it doesn't really go below 70 and sometimes remains hotter than that. we had a downpour last night, but now the sun is out again. and even when it rained, it was still in the 80s. the people here are some of the nicest and most hospitable you will find anywhere i think ...
