Lower Sigua Falls Redemption Hike

... fall hurt just a bit .. youll see in the video my form wasnt exactly "smooth" haha. So if theres any doubters out there... I HAVE hit puberty as of today! The hike back was a different route but was very similiar to the way there. We encountered a lot of sawgrass, had amazing scenic views of the mountains, and got our fair share of Boonie Mud! copy and paste in your browser to watch..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTJ57wip An8

Advanced Open Water Scuba course

I took the advanced open water SCUBA course this weekend. It consisted of reading a useless book, knocking out some quizzes, and completing 5 specialty dives. The dive we chose were the Night diving, wreck diving, drift diving, navigation, and deep water specialty dives. The navigation and deep werent too much more interesting but the other dives were Really Cool
We went out Friday night to explore Gun Beach, a beach with ...

Theres always enough time!

So... this saturday had to have been one of the most eventful days Ive had since ive been on this island! Saturday here was Guam's clean the coast day and hundreds of peoples lined the roads and coastal areas piking up trash and other debris that take away from the natural beauty of this place. Joe and I left base around 530am to head down to Merizo on the south side of the island. Merizo is right next to Umatac Bay and Magellan's landing. Magellans ...

My ship is too close to yours...

This weekend, due to the ceremonies and flights for Sept 11 and an upcoming typhoon was cut a little short on the adventures. However, I did get to go on a dive that I've been wanting to do for a long time now. There is a spot in Apra Harbor with 2 shipwrecks that lie only 5 feet from each other. 2 ships from 2 different world wars, 2 different countries, and 2 different stories, right next to each other! It is the only place in the world ...

The full moon

So, starting the weekend with the tallest mountain in the world, we had to keep the excitement going by trying to top something even that cool. Myself, Joe and a couple B52 pilots signed up for a boat dive out to the "Blue Hole", which is a huge cavern inside a cliff that comes out parallel with the oceans surface that goes from 60 to 130 feet. Its supposed to be really exhilarating and one of Guam's favorite dive spots. However, our boat captain was not a very risky fellow and due ...

Tallest Mountain in the world

So, this Friday morning here was a holiday on Andersen. They celebrate a family day which pretty much closes the base down so families can spend some time together. Not too bad, especially for us single guys.. Ill take a day off! Id have loved to spend it with Meg but being on the other side of the world I had to go with the second best thing... climb a mountain haha.

So, Mount LamLam here, at 1334 is the tallest mountain in the world from ...

Don't be a dick to the locals

... go unnamed. But we will call him Airman 1. Airman 1 was the driver, taking us down to the beach and had all of our new camping stuff in the bed of his truck. The trip down south took about 45 minutes and we had kept our eyes out for a good spot the entire time. Coming up on a small beach with some cool blocklike houses, we saw a bonfire out with a bunch of local chamorrans hanging out beside it. I told Airman 1 to stop so we could get advice from ...

I love Guam, and the one day I spent there.

... in the other naturally. I also saw hooters, which was hiring and I contemplated not going to South Korea, but knew I had to move on.

We only got to stay one day and it just didn't seem right to eat at an american restaurant on such a tropical island! I love this beach-feel no shoe pubs. On the plane ride back to Japan ( we stopped there first) I slipped on a shell in my sleep. I could tell I was already reminiscing.

Guam

... oriented, but also very rural and rugged at the same time. I've enclosed a few photos from the hotel area in Tumon Bay, with the rocky point in the distance called Two Lovers Point. Legend has it two Chamarro lovers tied their hair together and jumped to their deaths to avoid separation. Ouch! I did not see any of the infamous Brown Tree snakes which have decimated the bird population on Guam. "Some forested areas of the ...

Cruise 2005 part 3

... away. Alas, due to the vaganizing of the military, this is no longer practiced. Oh, and the reason we called it "the pig seat" is because quite often EA-6B's are called pigs because of their unattractive form. Finally, after four days of fun in the sun and doing everything from snorkeling on reefs to visiting a water park, it was time for us to go back to sea. Our next stop.... Kuala Lumpur. Sound exciting doesn't it? Until then.... Fair winds.... Old Salt
