We booked into this 'hotel' based on the good reviews but realised our mistake straight away.
The room (£118/night) had a stained carpet,peeling paint,dirty bathroom,old
curtains and was generally small and not .worth £18/night let alone the £118 they
were asking. My wife said she felt like crying at the thought of spending two nights
there and I had to agree..so we didn't.
Other bad points include the car park being a 5 minute walk from the hotel and the hotel closing at 2300 with no night porter.
The hotel is central but this is in the not so nice part of town and feels very claustrophobic.
Overall very unimpressed.
Owner's Reponse
As the owner and manager of Harington's Hotel I felt I had to write in response to the above mentioned review of the hotel. Myself and my partner work in the hotel on a daily basis and take any negative comment on the hotel very seriously. If a guest has a complaint or difficulty we work tirelessly to correct the issue. We are very much proactive in constantly trying to ensure that our guests are well catered for, and that their expectations are not only meet but exceeded.
Their are a number of issues I feel I must raise in response to the review. The first and most important is no one made a complaint to the hotel about the room being unsuitable or the bathroom being untidy or any other issue that the reviewer raises. If this person was so disappointed with the hotel, surely they would have raised the matter with the management. I know I would certainly let the management of a hotel know if I was unhappy with the product or service I was paying for.
Firstly regarding the matter of the bedroom. All of our rooms have been newly redecorated within the last three years. I can honestly say hand on heart all our rooms are in good decorative order. Weather the bathroom was untidy or not I cannot say as it was not brought to our attention. What I can say is that cleanliness is our number one priority. It is something that we have consistently scored very highly on over the years under the AA hotel reviews.
A point I feel I don't need to answer regards our location. All I'll say is have a look at a map of Bath and you will see we are located between queen square and Milsom street. Queen square houses most of Bath's professionals and Milsom Street has the best shops in the city. Add to this the fact we are on the last cobbled street in the city with no through road and I feel our situation could not be much better. But don't believe me look for yourselves. Other reviewers have constantly mention our great location. Someone must be getting it wrong?
Regarding car parking I must agree with the reviewer our reserved car parking is all of a 4-5 minute walk away. Finally regarding the hotel closing at 11 pm, well lets just say I think the writer must have us confused with another hotel he/she stayed at. The hotel bar stays open until 12 midnight every night of the week. During weekends if it is busy we will stay open till 1am. There is also a member of staff on duty 24hrs a day.
I understand that some people will take my comments with a pinch of salt and that is understandable. I believe in the product and service we provide our customers with is of a very high standard. Which I believe is reflected in the amout of repeat business we generate.
I hope you decide to take my word and those of the other 5 reviewers, or better still decide for yourself. We look forward to welcoming you to Harington's Hotel and making your visit to Bath a special one.
Thanks for Listening, and I hope I did not go on for too long.
