After an English Breakfast (pretty close to the Scottish one), we left our home on the farm and drove to Fountains Abbey. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. King Henry sacked the monks/churches wealth and demolished hundreds of abbeys. Fountains Abbey is the best preserved.
