Bushman

... Namibia because it is 45 kilometers away from the park entrance. Its actually just the closest sand dune to the road and all the tourists climb it so its pretty easy and the sand is not that hot. Tim told us the Bushman walk took too long and we did not have time to climb it, we responded by running up Dune 45. Great Everest training.

Then we spent the entire afternoon on the truck. Tim told us it would be a 5 hour drive but it turned into 7 hours and we were not happy.

... pool before Jackie and I did a walk along the property’s walk trails and came upon some kudu antelopes in the grasslands. The camp had some interesting sculptures made from recycled cars and metal pieces and chairs with antelope horn armrests. I was on cook group so did the meal with 2 others and made spicy rice with chicken curry. Another early night as we had another sunrise departure.

TIP: Bring enough money to buy some of the local wears from the shop in the village. You can buy shields, spears, musical instruments (ask to hear one of the Bushmen to play one, it's a really interesting sound!), jewellery, etc. You can also ask to have ...

Today we climbed a mountain

... lack of mountain climbing experience. We had to make sure that we kept up a good pace so that we weren't stuck on the mountain when the sun had set. We all made it down before sunset and were just in time for dinner!

After dinner all of the ladies were treated to a fashion show that starred the boys of the tour [Rocko included:)] . The boys were showing off some of the scarves that our tour guide was selling. Its funny the things that ...

Day 8 - The end of a wonderful journey

... wasn't as ******* my knees as it's usually been. It might have something to do it being the last day of hiking. Almost near the bottom we found some fresh running water. A bit of a relief. I emptied out what was left in my water bottles. No need to carry water around when it's readily available. Walking down the stream, we eventually came across some beautiful and deep limestone pools. We moved a bit further downstream until we came across a really big deep pool, and decided that ...

Day 7 - Crazy chains and severe water restrictions

... that we cannot trust that the chains are safe so the first person to climb, Peter climbed the rock face without relying on the chain, checking every link to ensure it was secure. This was no easy feat as moss was growing everywhere there was running water making the rocks extremely slimy and slippery. Watching Peter and Terrence slowly make their way up didn't put too much faith in ourselves as these were usually the guys that did it in no time and without any difficulty ...

Day 6 - Hiking the flats on auto drive

... height and stature of the waterfalls as Black Eagles flew up above to and from their nests. We were told we would hike to the top of the falls, it seemed like a very long way up, and I guess is why the steep hike up is called Groot Hartseer ("Great Heartsore"). Yesterday's hike up Broekskeur was much more enjoyable than Groot Hartseer. This part of the hike saw us walking up a lots of loose and crumbling rocks. Not exactly stable and easy. After two steps forward ...

Fish River Canyon - Namibia

... the night. In the morning we got up and took a walk in the desert with a guide named Nico. He served us tea and we watched the sunrise before heading back on foot to the lodge. We saw a puff adder, some more springbok, oryx and plenty of other desert creatures. It was lovely and cool...though we took another shower just to be safe...before we left for our next truly long dusty drive to the Namib desert.

Lions kill a Giraffe, dead Cape Cobra, & Cheetahs

This morning we decided to leave early, but we saw Eva and Arne at the Mata Mata gate and they said the lions had killed a giraffe, so we rushed back to find it. There were no other cars and about 20km back we saw a huge giraffe lying dead on the field, and four lions sleeping nearby. We were able to drive right next to the kill, and the lions were so full their bellies were ...

The Hunting Farm at Uhlenhorst

We left Atlanta at 10:30 am on the first of June. At 3:30 pm on Friday, June 2nd, after an 18-hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, a three-hour layover and a two-hour flight to Namibia we arrived at the airport in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Once there, we found that Sam's rifle and shotgun had not made the last flight. After about 2 hours of discussion the officials at the airport and Hoekus, the professional hunter ...
