final days in Bali

My final days in Bali...i decided i had a whole week of quiet, relaxation and taking in the balinese way of life...although next time i come to Bali...and yes there will be a next time....I will look into staying with a Balinese family. They have interesting homes which maybe you had a look at in my Ubud entry. they provide a community that collects many generations in one compound, each with their own community kitchen, temple and other structures that allow the people to share and spend tim...

THE END

And so we left Bali. Oh so sad. But not before we had some Mexican Food! My favorite! and although they used Kidney Beans instead of Refried Beans, it was a nice change from all the green curry I'd had in Thailand. Actually the Hard Rock Hotel food was pretty good. Every night we'd come home drunk and order room service. The girls then took a walk down the beach, while i got a quick shower and a nap. Then we checked out and headed toward the airport. P.S. Natalie is deathly afraid of flying. ...

What Happens in Bali...

stays in Bali! ha ha ha. J/K folks. I am VERY sad about leaving Bali, made a lot of good friends here so I can't write this entry right now. Plus, heading to the airport soon for my 2 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (spelling?) and then 12.5 hour flight to Frankfurt, Germany. I will write more about Bali from an internet cafe in the coming days. If you read this blog at ANY time tomorrow (sunday, july 27th) think of me crammed in a little airplane seat. Chao !

Bali- Eat, Prey, Love kind of

Okay, so Bali was gorgeous. I did eat a lot and then I preyed the food would stay in me, but no such luck. Even with bottled waters to brush your teeth, etc it still came in and out (sorry to be graffic, but it is the truth!) As for love- still searching. My hotel was AMAZING, shout out to all the Hard Rock staff and the fun people I met while listening to the house band 4 nights in a row- Siloute. Loved them (plus safer not to travel too far on my own til I made friends). Traveling by myself...

Island of the Gods

As a plane lowered itself onto land, there is a skip in my heart. A spike of anticipation. I'm finally here! The island that brought love back into Elizabeth Gilbert's life*. The warm breeze, the clear blue skies, the sound of the ocean - the sights and sound of an best island vacation starting. A rush through immigration, getting a cab and checking into the Hard Rock Hotel by Kuta Beach, we were all set for a late lunch at Made's Warong. What's so special about Made's Warong? Except the fact...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hard Rock Hotel Bali Kuta

Very ordinary, but had some good points.....

from Dromomaniac
We stayed here with our 2 kids, aged 4&9, and their view of the hotel was very diferent to ours.

The good points we found were:

-huge buffet breakfast

-deli choices were a nice change for lunch/dinner

-the pool is amazing

-the kids were happy

-the rooms are huge and well appointed

-our bathroom was lovely, but have heard others comment that theirs were old/daggy

-great & reasonably priced room service - the tuna carpaccio was killer!

The kids loved everything about the hotel, the biggest positives for our kids were:

-the amazing pool & pool slides

-the fact that they could go to see a live band at the bar & even dance on the bar (yes, at ages 4&9!!!)

-the food

-being on TV in the room when they were in the bar (I was in the room & saw them)

The bad points for us as adults:

-very musty smelling room, even with an electric air freshener in there

-overpriced for what it is, I think

-very greasy buffet breakfast (but it tasted great!!!)

-not terribly friendly staff, particularly at front desk, where they seemed more interested in being cool than looking after guests

- our kids only went to the kids' club once, for 2 hours and got bored with it - so our 4 year old just left & turned up at our room (fortunately we were there!). Someone from the kids club did phone about 10 minutes later, looking for her, but only after our 9 year old asked where she was.

Overall, it's not a bad hotel, the pool is just fantastic, and HUGE, but the hotel is overrrated and overpriced for the standard of it.

Wonderful holiday place

from Aji2206
Me & my wife had a nice deal on the hotel from our travel agent ($95/N + 1% Tax). We stayed for 3D2N. At first, it was all because the "brand name" when we chose this place. But when we got there, the hotel was cool & the staff was very nice (even the intern ones). But the best was the pool & the location (beach accross the street & the Kuta Square around the corner). So, it's a great place for holiday (note: just holiday). Why? Here's why: all the hotel rooms types are the same. They just differ by themes and the view/access. Rooms with the pool view/access and garden view/access, which are in the ground floor, should have higher price than others. And the soundproof of the rooms are not as I expected. So, for you honeymooners, you might not get as much privacy here. Well, maybe if you stayed on the rooms at the top floor. Next, the pool, some say it's the "main attraction" of the hotel. It opens at 8AM. But because it's a large place, the staff couldn't finish preparing the pool on time. For you morning-swimmers, like myself, this could be a problem. My advice to them: open earlier (7AM) and prepare earlier. I'm not too fond of swimming in the afternoon-evening. Otherwise, it's a great pool to swim/play in. As for touring around Bali, we used the HR tour agent. Turns out, not that expensive than I thought. For hotel guests, will cost you around $50 for the car rent (parking & gas included) for the whole day. While booking outside will cost around $35. I thought it would cost me double the outside. But when you get to know the guide, you can contact him directly for your next tour for the $35 price. Maybe lower, if you can negotiate better. Conclusion, all-in-all, the HR resort is a great place for (family) holiday! Cheers!

Fantastic!

from LaFamille
We stayed here last August but have only just found this website. I cannot recommend this hotel and its staff highly enough. We had the most fantastic holiday. The pool and facilities are excellent. The surf school was just great and catered for all ages and experience. But the best part was the hospitality - the staff were - without exception - the most professional, helpful and kindest people I've ever met - we felt like we were old friends - the perfect family holiday hotel!

Only so-so hotel

from qtpie10817
I was dissapointed in the condition of the hotel room, but for the money, it was OK. The floors of the room were cement, so plan to bring house-shoes or slippers. The bathtub/shower was a bit moldy, so bring shower-shoes. I happened to be on the first floor and in a quiet area of the hotel. The room walls are very thin, so if you're a light sleeper, go somewhere else. The pool looked nice and the facilities in the hotel were quite nice. The breakfast was included and was above average. Lots of food selections. The surrounding area of the hotel was very convenient to lots of shops and outdoor markets.

Good holiday

from julianb
Stayed here for 12 nights in September.

Facilities very good as was the standard of acomodation-we stayed in a deluxe room which was very nice.

Whilst breakfast was ok the other couple of meals we had in the main hotel resturant were dire and expensive at that compared to other resturants in the area.

Service was generally mixed and the cost of food and drink very expensive compared to places outside the hotel. Always had to ask for more coffee at breakfast it was never offered which was a pain.

Pool area however is great as are the gym and spa.

Beware also of the extra's such as tax and service charge that you have to pay on top of the published room rate.

However my partner and I really enjoyed our holiday.

Review from a hotelier

from WaiKuan
I wasn't expecting high on HardRock Bali after reading the poor reviews here. However, i wanted to try as it's a very popular hotel by its name, so i didn't cancel it. I called to the reception few weeks before my check-in date, and was told that they only had the Deluxe Room available which is the 2nd lowest category of room type which i was actually looking for a Superior Room (lowest category). As a hotelier, i felt very happy becuz normally, when you were told that the hotel has no more lowest category of room, but yet, you still can book it thru the internet, and when you c/in, they will normally upgrade you to a better room. Therefore, i booked thru the internet and got quite a reasonable price for an international hotel like this. Honestly, i felt very happy that i chose Hard Rock. (If you dun feel comfortable staying in hotels that look like "haunted").. it's a very hip hotel..I even booked a airport transfer to the hotel so when my partnet and i came out from the arrival hall, we were received by a guy in very shocking orange coloured uniform. He was very friendly and very initiative to help. So, we were driven to the hotel and were introduced places of interested along the way by the driver such as the hotels, restaurants and beaches.. It took about 20 min from the airport so i'd suggest to take a taxi by yourself cuz hotel taxi costs us USD8 for just <20min. However, we felt safer to take the hotel taxi since it's our first time in Bali. I actually expected better reception at the main entrance since we're taking the hotel taxi, however, we were not greeted by anyone becuz they were concentrating on the car in front of us..we carried our luggages by ourselves and walked without any direction to the reception. Staffs at the reception that evening were NOT friendly enough.. they didn't even look up when we were just in front of them.. the guy who checked me in didn't really look at us during the whole process, instead, staring at chics behing us.. however, we were escorted by Guest Relation to our room and we were thoroughly introduced of their places like Breakfast place, pool and in room facilities. The room was considered very clean, not as bad as previous reviews.. towels were yet not so White, but i believe it happens in every beach resorts due to the water they use for washing.. other than that, everything was perfect. I didn't expect duvet in a beach resort .. but they had it.. also their slippers, laundry bags, a beach bag with funny wordings..everything were so comparable to 5-star hotel. Tv channels were so various..as well as their 2 daybeds in room, was so useful during the daytime when you dun wanna mess up yer bed but want so relax somewhere. Breakfast was not bad as well, not so many choices but yet, it's already sufficient enough for your whole morning... staffs there were friendly and attentive compare to the front desks'. Facilities in the hotel were fantastic as well, especially the pool, it's definitely somewhere you can spend your whole day! If you are using earning USD/Euro/Aus Dollar or other strong currency, renting a cabana would be a best thing for you to do.. especially when you're with yer partner .. there are lots of Hard Rock stores in the hotel, about 3 i guess.. all well stocked and price was very good as well.. night time, you can also have a drink at the Centerstage where they have liveband shows, dun forget to use your Complimentary Welcome-Drink vouchers as well as the 25% discount voucher they give you for better offer on your favourite drinks. Hope you will enjoy in Hard Rock Bali.

Ok hotel, not great

from Inkblue
we paid 100 dollars a night for this hotel, which is VERY expensive for Bali standards, so i expected a lot of bang for the buck here. the room we stayed in was old, and i wasn't happy with the quality of the room. in asia there is usually a filter for the water, so you can drink it. here they only supplied us with 2 bottles of water a day, which isn't enough because you have to brush your teeth with it too. the hotel people are always trying to sell you something, don't book tours here, its significantly cheaper outside. the pools are wonderful, so if you want to be a pool bum this hotel is really your best bet. since kuta has so many hotels, you can find a prettier and cheaper one just down the road. i suggest standing at poppies cottage 1 or 2, its cheaper and it has a more natural feel. there is also a cool bar at the hard rock, with a live band each night. otherwise there are no more special enimities.

Very disappointing ....

from A TripAdvisor Member
After spending 7 days at the wonderful Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, we looked forward to our four days of luxury at the supposedly "deluxe" Hard Rock Hotel.

Having booked two interconnecting rooms and having seen photos on the net and in brochures we couldn't believe how shabby the rooms were for the price. The sheets and towels were "grey" and the rooms have dated badly. The polished stone floors were badly scratched and grubby, and everything in the bathroom was just grotty. On top of this our rooms (beware of block 4) overlooked a chicken coup on the next block of land and the noise from the chickens was unbearable, even in the middle of the day. Having been sick for two days the idea of trying to get some rest was impossible.

On requesting a room change, the front desk staff were less than impressed, and made us feel as if we were putting them out by even asking. The new rooms were at least quieter, but just as shabby as the first. Throughout our stay we had numerous visits to the front desk, particularly to have our electronic keys re programmed as they only had a life of about 24 hours, and on each occasion, the girls on the front desk staff were sour and unhelpful. I will say though that the male staff were quite the opposite.

On the plus side, the pool area is fabulous and the cabanas are great. We hired a poolside cabana ($20 per day) for three days and it added a little bit of luxury, particularly for the children. Food throughout the hotel is standard Hard Rock fare, and generally once inside the hotel, you really don't know that you are in Bali.

While the state of the rooms were really poor, the housekeeping staff were very friendly and accommodating. These are the people that should be working on the front desk of this hotel, because they are all so pleasant.

After the most fabulous breakfast buffet at the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, the buffet at the Hard Rock was very disappointing. If you are planning to stay at the hotel, give the breakfast a miss and visit some of the nearby restaurants that all offer a la carte breakfasts at a much cheaper price.

All in all, if you are a rock and roll nut, you will enjoy the ambience and looking at the memorabilia used to decorate the hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location, and the pool is large (but very warm - like swimming in a bath most afternoons).

If you are not into rock and roll memorabilia, go elsewhere - as it was certainly not worth the money.

Worst Value for Money

from A TripAdvisor Member
It is the WORST value for money hotel room that I have ever paid for in Bali. The room is absolutely terrible and the breakfast was standard. Go to next door at the Mercure Hotel, where for a much a cheaper rate, you will get a better room and a better breakfast.

Great Hotel & What a Breakfast!!!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hard Rock Hotel Bali is EXCELLENT. The location, the breakfast, the beach and the facilities are super good, evrything!! We spent our honeymoon in our super cool room and great bathroom (with a weird cowboy door and open window so your partner can see 'evrything' what you do in the bathroom ;) HHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

The swimming pool is also GREAT!! You can just walk there and feel the sand in your feet!! Especially, if you're feel like go to swimming at night, the lights are so perfect!!

Only one thing, the cafe (in the middle of the hotel) is so LOUD, so you can bearly hear the DUM DUM DUM in your room ;p but, thats ok (at least for us)!
