Due to Hurricane Arthur, the Outerbanks (OBX as everyone refers to it here) was not what we hoped it to be. I had no idea what to expect traveling to the region for the first time. For those of you who have little inclination of what the Outerbanks are, it is one major highway (HW 12), which runs for roughly 100 miles down the eastern coast of North Carolina. It is separated from the state by a series of capes and islands. The highway is only navigable by bridges ...

We stayed at the Seapath Marina ...

Today we are swimming again at the pool and ocean. Dinner with my family in New Bern at Fridays Seafood restaurant (not TGI Fridays) I ...

Highway 70 south brought me past the Croatan National Forest to the coastal towns of Morehead City and Beaufort, both on the Intercoastal Waterway, protected from the Atlantic by a series of islands and peninsulas. Beaufort is the 3rd oldest city in North Carolina and is full of beautiful old houses with porches and widow's walks. I walked along the waterfront and then joined Captain Bob on the Water Bug for a history and wildlife cruise. We saw three of the wild horses ...
