    ... the local shops - well, souvenir shops that are everywhere and contain pretty much the same merchandise. On our way back to the ship Bruce took off his sandals at a small beach and “paddled” in the water. He has been wanting to have a swim in the Aegean Sea since we left Hobart but it hasn’t happened yet (mainly because we haven’t been near any beaches).     According to our latest guide, the statue actually was built at the tallest point in the city, so it could be seen from far away. A relatively recent artist’s conception mistakenly placed the statue’s legs on either side of the harbor.
