Strike while the iron's hot...BAD pun, Tom's idea!

... for Tom... she extended our room check out time on Sunday until 8pm so we can come back before going to the airport, she got us drinks and offered to call Qantas to let them know Tom might need extra assistance on the flight. To top it off, we came back to the hotel tonight to find a lovely letter and a basket of flowers! Really impressed. The doc strapped Tom's hand, and he is now equipped with pain killers, anti ...

No punchups - off to a veryu good start

... glued to the Box! We had vodka tonics with lunch - what the hell, I'm not driving!!! Not a bad way to spend the day - now I've finally remembered my log on (having to go via Gmail and then trying to remember that log on - Crikey!!) Barb and I have bumped into stuff, talked and grinned to all and sundry and are basically enjoying being on hols :) - My australian accent is at about 11+ - which always happens to me and ...

Singapore Day 103 (Aug 31st)

... by the amount of rainforest on the island, literally this place had no new development work happening and a handful of convenience stores. It felt like we had discovered a cool little place not many tourists come to, as all day we only saw 2 or 3 other westerners (and hardly any locals either!!). The scenary was stunning, the rainforrest was so dense and humid, it felt like we were in the jungle and the soundtrack to ...

Singapore, bonjour l'Asie

Singapore Part 1

... terms of the engines. Some turbulence over the Andaman Sea, forcing cabin crew to have to abandon serving food for a short time, and the next thing you know we’re at Changi Aiprot, at a cool 91 degrees.

A short taxi ride from a seemingly deserted airport – efficiency, or most people travelling on to Australia? (we later find out that the answer is both), and we’re at Spottiswoode Drive ringing the doorbell of Bob and Vita ...

Hot & Humid in Singapore

... was too chaotic with nowhere obviously to sit down. This time Imogen and I had Southern Indian vegetarian curry served on a banana leaf with a freshly made Roti Prata (bit like a chapatti). Lovely and cost S$6! We then headed back to Ion for a dessert of ice cream from the newly opened Gusttimo di Roma gelataria, only to find it had shut! I was not amused. Headed back to the hotel in a strop.

Meditations on Peanut Butter, Feet, and Pain

... much, but it was just such an interesting situation. It's weird to have been through the same experience as these people, being aware of each others' presence but never acknowledging it, and at the very end of it to finally be able to do that! But what a great feeling, truly!

It's also funny how your perception of people can change. There was one girl, about my age, who I had observed quite a bit. She was part of the group of people who are not doing the course for ...

Many adventures

So.  My flight out of LAX went mechanical.  It was a switch indicating something about proximity to the landing gear doors or some such.  It took *2 hours* to fix!  I was worried about misconnecting in NRT, especially because they are swine-flu-crazy and taking every inbound passenger's temperature, so I called the 1K line (reminding me of why I'm doing this, again) and asked to be protected on the Singapore Airlines (SQ) flight later that night.  The agent was ...

Hot and sticky

... was soaked through. Looks like some of the locals are struggling too. No rain as of yet but I think it does rain each day in short powerful bursts. Could see the clouds looming from the descent.

Found the hostel in the end and booked in for 2 nights. Have a top bunk in a dorm room with 3 other beds, which is not ideal but this is still expensive, so a single room is out of the question ...

Week 2

... seemed to like the view too. Thursday 29th: Our country orientation guide, Deborah, picked us up for a half day tour. It was a lot of information to take in, and unfortunately I didn't bring my notepad. It gave us a pretty good feel for the place, and I'm glad we had that introduction. Friday: During the morning we went to see about 4 different properties. Some ...
