Around the Hoorn
... old windmills and new wind turbines dotted along the way.
There was that fresh, natural smell that you only get in the countryside hanging in the air. The landscape was crisscross-crossed with streams and small canals.
Edam is a small town near the Ijselmeer (or what used to be the Zuider Zee) and is part of the municipality of Edam-Volandam. ...
A decision to stay
Monday 7th June
It was a horrible, wet, windy night and the morning was no better. Winds were blowing at 22 knots from the NW and visibility was right down in the driving mist and rain, as were the temperatures, it felt distinctly April-ish. Back to bed for a while then up and about to ...
Exploring the Markermeer - Hoorn
... promised delivery of the replacement fridge on Monday next, so this could fit in well with our plans, if the promise was adhered to. We were now free to head on back down the Markermeer and to explore the towns that we had passed on the way up to Enkhuizen. First stop Hoorn, about 10km away.
We extricated ourselves out of de Gier Maritien's pilings and headed off down wind at about 14:00. There was only a handful of knots of wind so we knew it ...
