    ... whole time. It was so uncomfortable, I just wanted to go home at this point.

    Howard's friend Terry and his wife Annie suggested that they could drive me to the train station after we had dinner, so I agreed because I wanted to try the famous Taiyuan vinegar noodles. They ordered a feast and paid for everything.

    ... world, where a super rich merchant lived and conducted his business with his family and hundreds of servants.

    The film Raise the Red Lantern was shot there, so the whole thing felt oddly familiar and depressing, like the movie. I hadn't seen the movie in a long time, so it was all a very vague sort of familiarity. Strange.

    ... t think they had seen a campervan before. As word got around more and more people came to see us and look inside our vans. One young man spoke really good English and said he wanted to be a school teacher. He showed us some of the abandoned parts of the town including some cliffs that had been hollowed out. We were also invited to look into one of the enclosed yards.

    ... the weather, we slowly walked passed every stall, stopping for things we were interested in and of course to take pictures with locals. The mild form of celebrity based on my skin color is something I don't think I will ever get used to. It was a much needed, fun night out!
