... the area, he sought to save it. He said, "Let's ask the German's if they'll surrender the area before we bomb it." Evidently the head German Captain was away, the 3rd Reicht was slowly falling, and the person left in command retreated from Rottenburg. So the city was spared from the bombing and occupied by the US troops. Good thing for all the people who, like me, enjoy visiting the area.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany trockie... The New Palace contained a huge rose garden and had a great view of the city. During our free time Jack, Suzanne and I wandered around town admiring the architecture. We stopped at a snack shop where I had a large soft pretzel and Coke for only 1.69 euros. Cheapest purchase I’ve made yet. Usually a Coke costs at least 2 euros ($3).
We were back on ship for a late lunch and passed time watching the countryside slide by and going through locks.
... had to take the old uncomfortable one...and it was even darker, and know I had no light. Damn! My bum hurt the next day. But that night we actually had to change hotels because the hostel was hosting about 50 8th graders! They came the night before and made more noise then I thought possible. We were happy to leave. So we changed to another hotel just down the street.
The next morning we got the bus and were off to Heidelberg.
... housed everything from Wheels that were used to execute people,
to masks put on people as punishment for acting like a pig or
gossiping. The medievil times were a hard place to live by the look
of it! Interrogation often involved torture and that was a legitamate
way to gain a confession. So a few hours were spent in the museum, we
then hustled over to St. Jakobs church to have a look at the wood ...
... gave us some information about what was good around the area, reminding us that Octoberfest is on in Munich at the moment and might be busy for accomodation. So we will have to check that out.
We then wandered around a bit to see the town halls and the market square, we looked at some shops and succumbed to the Schneeballen. The Schneeball is a fried then covered ball of dough stuff that is a speciality of Rothenburg. We got an original which was a bit .bleh to be ...
... bathroom. It's very clean and furnished with ikea type stuff but it looks alright. It reminds me of a holiday house and I have some doubts about noise ..but we'll see how we go. The wall walkway is just outside our bedroom but the windows double glazed so, hope all is well. Dinner was 2 min noodles cooked wonderfully by Dan and it was fun just watching the tv and relaxing..exploring of Rothenburg tomorrow!
... café for my weekly Skype session with the parents. And it was quite an experience. We were hoping they would have wireless, but the guy running the place spoke zero English. We asked about wireless and Skype, but he just printed us a password and turned on a computer for us. There was a webcam, so we figured we would try it. There was Skype on the computer, and we were able to connect to my parents. But we couldn’t hear them, only see them. And they couldn’t ...
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany zolina... discovered the best Apple Strudel in a little italian restaurant. The romantic rd trip was really cruisy after doing most of our travel on the public system. We should have taken another night or two stop along the way, dinkelsbuhl, or nordlingen could have kept us amused for another day, but we are still only 5 weeks into our 12 week trip and have our trip mapped out, to meet the other half of the family in a week.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany lilbluaxelotl... 11 and our teacher let us have 1 hour free, so we went back to the hotel. I made some lunch, tidied my room and packed my bags for the weekend.
Our afternoon class was IKK with a new teacher who was really amusing. He has a constantly excited looking face and to explain concepts to us, he performs role plays with himself, which is highly amusing.
Straight after class Trevor and I went to the trainstation to get our trains. Trevor was going to Eisennach ( I went there one ...
... home for Christmas. I've been thinking a lot about home lately. I guess that b/c I know that I am stopping my travels like this and that I am going to be getting work and all that, it was making me think of home, and that I was going to get to see people again. It was like stopping travelling and seeing everyone went hand in hand in my head but I am not going to get to see people. :( Anyways, stayed up tonight talking to these Asian girls 4 were from Taiwan and one was Japanese.
