I stayed at the serenity hotel for 6 nights and had a good stay. The room with window was spacious, had a large comfy bed, a fridge, A/C, and a clean bathroom. Good location in the old quarter. Breakfast is included, and they offer laundry service.
Would recommend it for the value its offer for money.

Hotel was recommended at the airport (thought it might be less than advertised) and it has exceeded our expectations! For $10 each a night my boyfriend and I our sharing a luxiourious spacious room with a view overlooking the city. A/c, tv, computer, fridge, free breakfast (eggs &bread or other options - not just bread!). The staff are very friendly and help you with anything you need. The only thing that we dislike is that our hot water is very inconsistent (or non existent)

We were greeted by the staff on arrival and given info about where to go, where to eat etc, which was very useful.
Room was nice and pretty big, though ours was on the 7th floor and there is no lift. Overall, great place and good value..

After a 6 1/2 hour bus journey (instead of the scheduled 4 hours) we arrived just after midnight in Hanoi. As I knew that we arrived slightly later in the evening in Hanoi I booked a hotel earlier the day - unfortunately they didn't provide a pick up. Which was probably a good idea - as I had no idea where I was. We didn't arrived at a bus station …

Our bus trip from Sapa to Hanoi was excellent! I think it was the best bus trip (and bus) ever. The bus was great, very comfortable- we were in sleeper seats, and the bus driver excellent. We left Sapa at 8:30am and arrived about 5 1/2 hours later. Checked back into our hotel and had them book our bus tickets to Laos the following evening. We spent …

... temporary passport then I will only have one more country to do and time wont be an issue anyway.

Not much left to do in the area and since the time was so short couldnt really head south so was pretty much stuck in hanoi. Only thing I hadnt done was the Perfume pagoda tour which I ended up booking for the Wednesday.

At this point also decided not to loose a year to doing an honours degree. Dont want to go straight back to work though so decided I would ...

... visited Tortoise Tower, situated on a small island, dedicated to a local legend whose apparent sword was swallowed by a golden tortoise. Bizarre but pretty! A second island across a small bridge boasts a small but beautiful and historic temple, Den Ngoc Son. The island is fenced in by hanging trees and foliage, and made a relaxing stop to sit and watch the fish swim or locals fiercely play Chinese chess away from the noise and congestion of central Hanoi. Peace at last!
