Late night last night ended up being a late night. Nick took us over to a restaurant near his house; a Teppanaki bar- much like Ichiban in Minneapolis. We sat at a grill and it was all you can eat and drink for only ~160 RMB- so less than $20. We also met up w/ a friend of Nick's - also from CBRE & went over to an expat bar afterwards too. …
... really friendly when I talk Chinese to them. I have just discovered that my best mate here Will, and his colleagues are being sent to another city for 3 months for a project, but I feel that I am fine, because to be honest I don't have time for any social life, and spend about 9 hours a day talking to teenagers, which I am surprisingly enjoying.
That is all for now, I am not sure when I will update next because honestly I am flat out.
... room. We went to the night market, but that was just a bunch of people like sardines among random tables of stuff, so we haven't gone back there. There is another market that is open during the day with a bunch of booths and things that we've been to a couple times that was pretty fun.
The weekend trips to Shanghai and Beijing were the best parts of the trip by far. Walking/hiking the Great Wall was an absolutely amazing experience.
... other side of town which is good in some ways at least I will be immersed in the local culture. Fortunately I do happen to bump into the landlady frequently and she can sure talk the hind leg off a mule, even when I don't understand and am quite unresponsive. She is really nice though and is kind of treating me like a son always checking up on how I am doing, and I really appreciate that.
After I moved in I had to do a heap of shopping ...
... having had that kind of experience in Malaysia I feel I can deal with it. I will start that in July.
I also met an English girl at Chinesetown and she was friendly and we exchanged details. She has been here 7 months, she said there is a group of them who hang out and that she would invite me to go out for drinks with them. That sounds great! I am looking forward to starting the classes and getting to know others who are living here.
