      Yesterday we traveled from Mississippi and across Louisiana almost to Texas -- it was a fairly long drive, but Sassy and Odie were good travelers. In fact, they spent (as always) the whole time driving in their carriers -- we open them up, but they just stay inside and look out at us. Oh well . . . . . ...

      Wednesday feb 18 the weather was warmer. We packed up and headed to Oak Alley Plantation (1200 acres) about an hour west of New Orleans. We arrived around 10:30. We did a guided tour of the home first then explored some of the grounds and perused the outbuildings that would have been slave quarters. Then we had lunch at the restaurant there before heading on our way. We drive as far as Vinton LA and arrive there around 6:00pm. Had homemade chili for ...

      ... a second, smaller, alligator who was chilling on the bank. So fun! Randy was very happy, and felt the trip (and his own worth as our host) had been redeemed by seeing those creatures, and the wonderful experience we had with the shrimp fisherman. (Poor guy, he mentioned a few times that he puts lots of pressure on himself about stuff like that—about being a “good” host, though we tell him that he’s just perfect!)
