Wednesday feb 18 the weather was warmer. We packed up and headed to Oak Alley Plantation (1200 acres) about an hour west of New Orleans. We arrived around 10:30. We did a guided tour of the home first then explored some of the grounds and perused the outbuildings that would have been slave quarters. I packed up and was on my way to breakfast at McDonald's. I had pancakes again for $2.19 and a water. I gassed up at a Shell for $44.73 and was on my way.

Randy was very happy, and felt the trip (and his own worth as our host) had been redeemed by seeing those creatures, and the wonderful experience we had with the shrimp fisherman. (Poor guy, he mentioned a few times that he puts lots of pressure on himself about stuff like that—about being a “good” host, though we tell him that he’s just perfect!)
