For our first night I booked a room at the hampton inn & suites in vacaville,ca.
... checked out all the various trees they have planted. It is pretty impressive to me to see all this going on. The unfortunately have someone coming over the fence and stealing the almonds. Shame on them.
Came back for final glass of wine and for the sunset and moon rise. The sun did set but the moon unfortunately did not come up 15 minutes after sunset as predicted by instead it was almost 10 ...
... of new ones back home and they will have them on in an hour and a half! Triple yay!
We decide to go grab a bite to eat while we wait. An hour later we head back over to find them all finished and we can get back on the road. Not bad for a pit stop ... it would have taken all f...in day back home to get his done!

... the stop this trip. Actually, we diverted to this area just so we coud go to Sattui Winery. We did our usual wine tasting and found several we liked. And we wanted a bottle of the 1999 Reserve Port we got last trip. Remaining stock of this port was low then, and what they have left is controlled by the manager, so all requests for it have to go through him. Jim waited for the wine to be boxed ...
... for 4 wine tastings or 15 bucks for 8. There were not too many people around so it was easy finding a spot. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I forgot his name – he is a Colorado boy who grew up loving beer, came to California to learn about being a sous-chef, ended up disliking that and loving wine a lot now (he has a 500 bottle wine collection). He is extremely knowledgeable and gave us some very detailed explanation about the wines they have at Hope ...
