... its progressive urban culture. However, out of the proverbial gas, we turned in for the night--ready for another colossal road day on Saturday--this time deep into the (northern) heart of Texas. The chirping of crickets, long a symbol of summer stasis, has taken on a more Hitchcockian vibe here in Tulsa...may we awaken from our sleep unharmed by this biblical pestilence. And may the breakfast bar be plentiful.
... hot. Morning tea today is in transit. Cold drinks and tomato and cheese on crackers all prepared while motoring along old Route 66. Next stop is in Carthage. This is a pretty little town . It's claim to fame besides being on Route 66 is its City Hall, Whee Bridge and a number of beautiful historical houses. Off this morning and we found Route 66 without too much bother. Initially, it was a cloudy day but this burnt off quickly, with predictions for it to be very hot today.
We left Missouri, rode 13.6 miles through Kansas, with the best signposting and ended up in Oklahoma. Initially, we passed through Galena - a quaint little town and of course took photos with the Route 66 sign etc.
