    ... climbed steadily from our wild site on a beautifully smooth dirt track to cross the continental divide three times, spending a couple of miles riding the ridge crest with unbelievable views on each side. From here we dropped down to Silver Pass City on old wagon trails which many emigrants both followed and died on during the first half of the 19th century and beyond.
