We couldn't stay! Outhouses and no water to brush our teeth or shower? Nah, couldn't do it. We left the campsite after one night. I figured we could find a cheap hotel somewhere before Edmonton. It would have been 3 hours back and forth from the camp site to the West Edmonton Mall anyway so we packed up first thing in the morning and headed toward Edmonton. In the mean time Greg found us a hotel in West Edmonton and got us a room. Nobody has a better ex than I do!
First thing we did, ...

... me to a pretty heartwarming goodbye, and I now know for a fact that leaving my friends and family behind is going to be the hardest part of all of this. So, in a note to them: Thanks everyone, for being caring, loving, and just downright good buddies this past little while, mmkay? I love all of you, no joke. Keep 'er real, and stay outta ...

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada lauramckennaWe left Jasper just before 10 am under cloudy skies. No wind this morning so even though it was only 1C, it felt warmer than it did last night when Mattie and I went for a walk. Jasper is a pretty little town nestled in the Rocky Mountains - lots of skiing and snowmobiling in the area. Driving through town, you notice a real mish-mash of houses - a new architectural monstrosity next to an old cottage-style home. Downtown is ...

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada senorbrian... all is on time but we have to de-ice. This sets us a bit behind. So after a quick flight we start the approach to Ottawa for a "quick" turn around....I swear I didn't see the runway till we were about 2 feet of the runway. But we made it yayyyyy. Then the adventure began......see it was really icy on the ground. So our pilot taxied real slow and all that so we got in late to our gate...and no crew is there to receive us. So he pulls a u-turn at the speed of sloth and ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada tyamkovy... He just sat in a chair telling us old tales and answering questions about Indian ways and history. We could imagine someone like him telling stories all night around a winter fire. The Blackfeet Confederation is five tribes and their allies in Canada and the US. In Canada they prefer to be called Blackfoot. They are plains tribes who hunted buffalo and warred with the Crow and the Lakota. Like many ...
Waterton Park, Alberta, Canada chereHello boys and girls, have arrived in Edmonton after an absolute prick of a flight. Air Canada sent my checked bag to San Francisco and I only got it this morning, which was uncomfortable. Also had so much stuff taken away from me in Sydney: after shave, deodourant, soap, toothpaste. What a drag. The check in desk didn't tell me about the new laws that had come in since I've last flew. Whatever. Got here and then did a bit of ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada jazza1982... I became so animated that I accidentally leaned on the flower planter too ***********e swift moment, everything toppled over including one of my favorite kitty mugs which was just topped up with tea. Just last week I had been gutted that I had drown one of the planters severely by not taking the plastic off the bottom. I have a pretty hard time keeping plants so I don't know why I continue to try. I feel terrible everytime I succeed in killing another batch of seedlings. Oh well. If ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada whereshegoes... of all of the above. I'm bringing a credit and debit card, as well as some travellers cheques and some cash, in US dollars and Peruvian nuevo-sols. I'll be leaving a photocopies of everything pertinent in Edmonton with my dad, as well as in some sort of safety deposit box in Lima. Also, I'm compiling a master list of all the phone numbers I may need to call (credit card company, travel insurance, medical help, etc) so both my ...
