... I'm 48 with arthritis. The rest of the drive was through very flat farm land. Also the temperature had gone right up to the 80's. Was nice to just sit back and relax listening to my music. Arrived in Merced which is not somewhere I'd usually pick to stay, but it was the most convenient town on the way to the coast. Hotel was quite nice. On the edge of the town, which is just as well, as Merced has a huge crime rate. So no going out for drinks ...

After spending the night in Sacramento, the group hopped on a short train and a bus before finally finishing the long trip in the heart of Yosemite. As we drove in to the valley I was in awe. The granite walls and mountains that surrounded us were both strong and beautiful. ... was Thanksgiving. No such luck, but we did however, find out that the sale didn't start until 10pm tonight and at 8pm there were already people in the store waiting with their trolleys. Around 8.30pm, we settled in to watch the movie Flushed Away and around 9pm we heard cars parking next to us. When we looked out the windows to see why they would park next to us when they had the whole car park to park in, discovered a massive queue of people leading from the store through the now full ...

Popular Yosemite National Park gets nearly 4 million visitors a year and this year the numbers were swollen by 5 eager Aussies in their now not-so-shiny RV. And when we arrived in the valley we could see why it is so popular - the setting is amazing! Sheer cliffs of granite surround a green forested valley floor with a rushing river, ending in a glacier-shaped canyon.

We stayed outside the park as all the ...
