... Also, all but one trail was flooded and even sections of the boardwalk path were under water, from recent floods. We walked as far as we could, looking at old growth hardwood forest and squirrels.
Then set off and arrived at Santee State Park. John spotted turkey vultures nearby. Beautiful wooded campground next to Lake Marion, largest lake in South Carolina, built by damming the Santee River in the 1940s. Warm weather at last. So good to be able to live outdoors ...
... hr rather than 6 1/2. This hampton inn is also nice...not as upgraded as the stafford one ( "only" 1 TV!) but still good. We had dinner across the street at the Captains Quarters. A step up from a chain but a LITTLE pricey for what it was ($90). Steak/prime rib was decent and chocolate cake we shared for dessert was very good. If we stayed here again, would try a different place but we were tired and this was fine! Rm ...
... OH and they had bought a home in FL...on their way to furnish it. Another guy we talked to was from Salem, OH. He sat with us and we learned he is a trucker who was taking his daughter to FL to college. Then there was an older lady there who also was headed to FL...never found out why...but she was from west of Cleveland! So, breakfast was an official Buckeye meeting! ;-) Off to our next ...
... SC, and stayed another night because the campground is so peaceful and quiet. Woke to birds singling and sunshine.It's to be 80 degrees today. I have a campsite on the lake.
While at Santee, I asked one of the campers if I could borrow his ladder to lubricate the mechanism that lowers/raises the TV antenna. He brought the ladder over, climbed onto the roof and lubricated the mechanism. Come to learn that ...
