Reason for trip was to visit Jake at Turning Point Centers. Arrived Sunday afternoon 6/8. Visited Jake at the center in Sandy, Utah during family visitation. Fantastic mountain and nature views. Lodging at Sheraton Salt Lake City. Monday am bike rental. Decadent waffle at Bruges Waffles and Frites. Followed the published city tour with extension up City Creek Canyon - 15.5 miles total. Nice swim in the Sheraton outdoor pool. Session with Jake and therapist ...
... was covered! Lunch was burgers and brats with kettle chips and then ice cream for dessert, much to the kids' delight.
In the afternoon, we had the sleeping car attendant make up the kids' berths to attempt a nap. D was initially really excited to sleep on the upper berth, but couldn't settle. ... we learned how to "vacuum" the rugs found in an early pioneer cabin, play games, wash clothes, and even try our hand at pulling a hand cart (which we could barely lift, much less pull 1300 miles); we also got to play chess with the local barber, learn how to clean wool, and sample Brigham Young's doughnuts, which were absolutely amazing!! Arrived in Salt Lake City around 2 pm. Ryan excitedly freaked out when he saw the street cars downtown. He immediately began a hearty campaign to ride them. So we decided to ride up a couple of stops, turn around and ride back. No problem! Then we got on the wrong train on the way back; when the train turned, that was when we realized our mistake. Ryan declared it the best mistake we had ever made, as it meant more train time! Sheesh. We got on the right ...
