Getting ready to travel - departure date 10/25

Ni hao! (Hello in Chinese...pronounced "knee how")

We are now one week away from our departure and realizing that next week at this time we will be in the air over the Pacific and headed to China! The accumulating of stuff is coming to an end and the real packing is beginning. The girls love the whole packing thing...their mother...not so much. Excitement is in the air as the count down begins.

We are looking forward to ...

Portland ME

... a ride on an authentic old time train around the city's harbor and see many of the extraordinary sites that have stood for decades.
Most of the city is compact and perfectly walkable. There is so much to see and do that you will never feel bored or disappointed. One thing for sure, you definitely will not go hungry or run out of places to shop! The Old Port District is the historic side of Portland, and it is a wonderful area reminiscent of America's humble beginnings.

Wells, Maine & Surrounding Area

... are located. They are very spread out and some not easily reached by foot. Neither of us were really into shopping so about hour later we headed back to Wells taking a lesser travelled coast road that took us through the wonderful area of York, Maine. The beaches and scenery were fantastic. We finished the day looking at the Nubble Head lighthouse still operated by the US Coast Guard.

Today (Tuesday) we headed towards the White ...

what a great city!

... in cold snow for the majority of the year i'd consider moving there.

for lunch we sailed up to a seafood restaurant called Cook's. we had a slight buoy mishap, that sent me running around the small bay to save the buoy but it was also the first exercise i'd had in days so that was good.

lunch at Cook's was a-w-e-s-o-m-e. we had steam-ahs and fresh maine lobstah in maine. simple boiled lobstah. it was awesome.

Day 153 – Helicopter Attack

... 8217;s Mum, as it was her birthday today. (Happy Birthday Mum!) During the conversation there was the most almighty noise as a flight of military helicopters flew overhead at just above treetop level in a scene reminiscent of that of the helicopter attack in the film "Apocalypse Now". Mum wondered what on earth was going on!

Once we had finished our call it was back in the bus and back down the road to ...

Day 152 - Mainely Laundry

... lunch and then afterwards, laundry duty for Mel and some bus maintenance for Neil.

At the end of the day it was wonderful to have a nice hot shower, enjoy dinner in the warmth of a heated bus and get into fresh, clean sheets, safe in the knowledge that there would be no refuse collections in the middle of the night.

Day 114 Saco Maine

... the large 6 masted boats from the land into the water alongside the Boat building yard. We managed to walk over and through a large wooden schooner cod fishing boat built in or around 1940 and was in work until around 1962, fishing with long lines out of Nova Scotia. By the time we finished the wander around the maritime museum it was time for lunch (hey it was 1:30pm). We had lunch in the car park (gee another advantage of the Castle, we save on paying for lunch ...

On the Road to Enlightenment!

... start with Nick since everybody thinks he's so cuuute and I'd probably get the most money for him. Sorry Kat! (By the way, Nick & Kat are the only 2 of my 4 kids getting this blog...though my step-daughter Rhéline could read it if she cared to). That's my cue to talk about my step-daughter, though she'll probably kill me if she finds out I'm talking about her. Last winter she took off for 6 months (by herself), backpacking thru Asia ...
