Day 136.5 The other part of the day :) We then chose to head back towards the beach, (hopefully away from the air traffic noise) we headed South East into North Carolina. We have broken the trip back to the ocean into a couple of bites, to allow a little rest and catch up on the washing. Wow! We had a dark, dreary, rainy day. One thunder boom, about an hour without power, absolutely NO wind! And we just found out that THIS county (Brunswick) had a tornado go through at 1 this afternoon, and there were two more VERY damaging ones within about an hour's drive ...

... and inlets. The shoreline is filled with vacation homes (I surmised, by the size and apparent cost of them, that they would be permanent homes, but was told that very few of them are year-round dwellings!), a few older ones, but most of the "cabin" types have been torn down and mansions have been built in their place. It was a PERFECT day - just on the verge of hot, but not quite there. Lots of pictures to upload a bit later!

... a small additional entrance fee, which includes a huge indoor swimming pool, indoor shuffleboard and minigolf, an arcade, and a ten-lane bowling alley. We did enjoy a swim one afternoon, and played a game of shuffleboard, too! It's a very relaxing spot, and once again, we're enjoying our wine after dinner while sitting outside watching the sun set and the birds settle in for the evening!

... the name of the place to everyone. Tomorrow, we are going to go Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland (James Monroe's home), and Michey Tavern before we head down to Kingsport, TN, to visit some family. It will be the first time in almost three weeks that Brian will run into someone (besides me, of course) that he knows. Last summer when we went to Mexico, Brian ran into folks he knew in Cabo San Lucas. He always runs into someone, so I think this is a record!

Greetings from the Econo Lodge in Jackson Minnesota . . . replete with 2 brown velveteen lazy boy recliners, a jacuzzi and a king size bed - which being the last room available in the motel (and the ONLY available room for the last 120 miles) is a welcome respite from a 16 hour day. Especially ...
