... south - a reason to return - to get to Richmond at a reasonable time. Welcome to The Jefferson Hotel - built around 1797. Have a look at this a stunning hotel.

Museum of the Confederacy was great, as was a tour of Confederate President Jefferson Davis' White House. Unfortunately, some really ugly buildings are jammed right to the door. Did a little shopping there, including buying a tie! :)

Later we moved to another buttress that was super easy and short but it was cool because you could climb to the top and just hangout and look over the river. We agreed it would be the perfect place to watch a meteor shower with absolutely no tree cover! Some day that will happen.

As we depart Delaware we continue our trek south towards the suburbs of Richmond VA where our next stopover is scheduled. Robin and Phillip (Casey's sister and husband) have graciously opened their home and are giving us respite for the week. This visit to Richmond also gives us a much anticipated chance to see J.J. We have really missed him and Casey was truly ecstatic. She's missed having the opportunity to do what mothers do best - Nag! ;o).

It was a short drive into the Great Commonwealth; Virginia. We picked up route 460 just outside of Roanoke, Virginia. Great kudzu-draped slopes flanked both sides of the road. In some places where the trees were covered, it almost looked like a green castle. Bud needed a nap, there was no place to stop, I drove 100 miles of rolling southern Virginia countryside! I know, ...
