We spent our first night at the Holiday Inn Express in Belle Vernon, across from Hoss's.
We started the next day with an early morning breakfast at Eat'nPark with our PA friends. After breakfast, we went to see my Dad and grand parents' graves, and then we hit the road.
For the first part of our trip, we took the back roads through Mt Pleasant, Donegal, and more. At Breezewood we got on to the turnpike for the rest of the ride.
... But we felt much more refreshed after a decent night's sleep,and breakfast in our suite. Thankfully we'd come prepared as some places don't provide brekky.
Paul had sussed out the buses, and where to catch one from, so we duly drove to the nearest stop. The bus was an express one, so it zipped into the down town area in 20 mins. It only stopped if someone wanted to get off, or at designated stops to get on.
First stop was coffee at Makkers. Not bad, ...
... morning and unexpectedly ran across the Flight 93 memorial (check out the videos).
After lunch I stopped in Pittsburgh for the Carnegie Museum of Art-- I highly recommend it!
Next I went for a beautiful trail run at Beaver Creek State Park in Ohio... also took a quick bath in my swimsuit as a true Burho ...
... with someone who really enjoys teaching. The ride into downtown Pittsburgh was a desire of mine given its history in steel production. The downtown presents well. It is at the confluence of 3 rivers and so there seem to be more bridges than streets. All steel bridges of course. Exiting the city included a ride in "Steel Valley" where much of the steel manufacturing occurred. Still ...
... Pittsburgh. There are plenty of great restaurants to choose from on top of this former "Coal Hill," and the stunning view of down-town (especially beautiful at night).
