... recreation area. This area was already closed for the season so we had all the trails to ourselves. We walked into town for groceries, bought fudge from a lady in her fudge shoppe who ironically stated she was"not a chocolate person," and then spent a memorable evening in the cockpit under the full moon relishing wine and cheese.

... up to silence each banging door and locker.

Then, around 3am, still only half asleep, Tom and I sat up in bed at the same time. "Oh ----, what's that smell??" We frantically began pulling up floorboards to determine the source of burning plastic and rubber. After a couple of minutes of searching we honed in on a fire hot water pump. Apparently a bearing had seized and because the wiring was undersized, not enough current passed to flip the breaker. Instead, it just ...

... as I got into Kentucky. This has certainly been an interesting way to learn USA geography. I also hit rain which got increasingly heavy. Trucks sped by nearly swamping my car so I decided to end my day in Paducah KY. There is a riverfront area here on the Ohio River (I think its the Ohio). If there is no rain tomorrow in the morning I will go and explore.

Monday 2 June

Monday 2nd June We woke early and set off to find a spot to have our breakfast and have a shower (in the van). We found a small town called Van Burren with a river running through it. We stopped in the park by the river. It was still quite misty as it was early. However the sun soon came out and it got very hot. After a nice breakfast we all had a shower and felt much better. The Land of Lincoln

The days ride took us out of Missouri and into Illinois, aka The Land of Lincoln. More importantly it is the home of Popeye. The swollen Mississippi was an impressive sight that day, but what we were really looking forward to was the prospect of Hodge fulfilling his promise to do one afternoons cycling with us. Naturally, it was a very late lunch that day, and when we finally stopped for ...

Fort Massac State Park

The home of superman and this fort that goes back to the French and Indian war, also used by the north against the south. Also across the Ohio River is Paducah Ky the home of the Famous Quilt Museum which we visited. The museum should be put on the must see list. Ray and Christa

Houseboating on Kentucky Lake

We joined our friends the Bouchers on a great trip to Kentucky Lake / Land Between the Lakes. We rented a 4 bedroom houseboat from Monday-Friday, and had a great time swimming, jetskiing, fishing and playing Dominos. Here are some pictures from our trip:

Paducah, KY

You may not believe this, but I was running a little late this morning. Despite the late start (9:30 a.m.), we made great time and arrived in Paducah at 7:00 p.m. We checked into the Courtyard Marriott and immediately drove across the river to Metropolis, IL, the home of Superman. I have a ...

TransAm - Day 27

... TransAm in 1976; Patrick, 41, retired NYPD officer; now works in construction. Frank has stated our group demographics is a bit unusual in that there is a relatively large number of individuals (the 30 and 40 year olds) in a state of transition. Within the next couple of days we will cross the Mississippi River into Missouri. That will give us a great sense of accomplishment. Thanks again for the messages of support and interest. James
