Then, around 3am, still only half asleep, Tom and I sat up in bed at the same time. "Oh ----, what's that smell??" We frantically began pulling up floorboards to determine the source of burning plastic and rubber. After a couple of minutes of searching we honed in on a fire hot water pump. Apparently a bearing had seized and because the wiring was undersized, not enough current passed to flip the breaker. Instead, it just ...

If there is no rain tomorrow in the morning I will go and explore.

We found a small town called Van Burren with a river running through it. We stopped in the park by the river. It was still quite misty as it was early. Paducah, Kentucky, United States manningnzThe days ride took us out of Missouri and into Illinois, aka The Land of Lincoln. More importantly it is the home of Popeye. The swollen Mississippi was an impressive sight that day, but what we were really looking forward to was the prospect of Hodge fulfilling his promise to do one afternoons cycling with us. Naturally, it was a very late lunch that day, and when we finally stopped for ...

Frank has stated our group demographics is a bit unusual in that there is a relatively large number of individuals (the 30 and 40 year olds) in a state of transition. Within the next couple of days we will cross the Mississippi River into Missouri. That will give us a great sense of accomplishment. Thanks again for the messages of support and interest. James
