Mike and I are all ready to head out for our second day of travel. The weather is looking so-so with high winds and some rain on our way to Phoenix but luckily no snow...yet. WEDNESDAY 7/2-The closer we get to Iowa the faster the blue skies disappear. There are clouds ahead and hopefully they are only rain clouds and not tornado clouds. Iowa is like Nebraska with corn fields on both sides of the interstate and a lot of older farm houses in the middle. I was wondering about all the corn and found that Iowa is the largest producer of ethanol uses only 1/3 of their corn supply ...
... this same storm before we go into Canada. The countryside changed as we traveled from Nebraska into Iowa - from flat and green and growing corn to rolling hills and green and growing corn. Iowa actually has some very pretty countryside. We are overnighting in Davenport at an RV/Truck spot, sharing it with one other RV. Tomorrow we hope to get around the southern end of Lake Michigan and we'll soon be ready to start speaking ...
Our host at Mont Rest was quite chatty and had quite a colourful history so breakfast went on for quite a while. As a staunch democrat she openly shared her views and tales of the politicians that had stayed there. She also proudly showed off her diorama which was an intricate recreation of the Chicago World Fair. We didn't mind the late start however, as we didn't have a lot of driving that day.

After the stop at the cemetery we drove past our childhood home on Route 4 (now Seven Springs Road) and we picked up a bag of Maid Rite burgers to take home (with Dolly) for lunch.
