Sadness and dismay!!!

While we are excited to see the ones we love, we really do wish we could see you all down on the beach. I started the day with a nice view of the sunrise between the palm trees, followed by a nice cup of local java while Alex got those last precious minutes of sleep before I woke him up. We had a 6:30 am water taxi to catch, and while the flight is only 2 hours from Belize City, a full day of travel ahead. Today, if all go as planned, we will ...

... Mother Theresa holding a gun?!!! Followed 50 metres down the road with Ghandi holding an AK47! Seemingly a lot of work had gone into these statues, but with no explanation, I couldn’t work out whether they were supposed to an artistic exhibition or America’s warped view on history!

Either way… strange!

Followed by the long walk back, passing a cruise ship the same size as a small country. Are people supposed to enjoy those things?!

... is painted like a mirror. Very cool. We then went back to our hotel and sat in the windowsill drinking and looking at the lights of the city. We shut the curtains behind us and it was like being in a 15 storey cubby house. We leave the curtains open when we go to bed so that we can wake up to the sun. It also makes for an amazing view the million timse Sarah gets up to pee that ...

DAY 2: En Route to the Keys!

A travel blog entry by ianaizman

After getting a late start this morning, I feel sufficiently refreshed and ready for an adventurous trip to Key Largo! I enjoyed a delicious Brazilian breakfast, homemade by my host. We sat and ate on the porch overlooking the harbor and downtown Miami. After saying our goodbyes, I left the apartment and headed out into the steamy Miami morning. I found a cab sitting in a hotel/spa parking lot, and asked the driver, Mark, how much it would cost to get to the airport. He said ...

... InterNation is one of them. Did I
mention Miami is very international. Well InterNation proves it. This group caters to expatriates (expats for short) and the internationally minded (there's an InterNation group in every major city). All the people I spoke with were interesting with good stories to tell. I usually find this to be the case with the ...

    Great place to stay

The place was amazing. Really nice rooms and tidy. Although we had a smelly room to start with, we didnt have trouble swapping immediately to another room. The staff were real friendly and helped us with everything.

    Beware the airport shuttle

    from

The Hampton Inn-Dadeland is a fairly ordinary hotel in a rather obscure location (though within walking distance of a large mall...if that's what you're looking for). Our major complaint was the amount of time it took for the free shuttle to collect us from the airport. We phoned at 2:55 pm and were told the shuttle was about to leave with arrival around 3:20 pm. At 3:45 we phoned back only to be informed that "it had just left". We wasted 1 hr and 40 minutes waiting curbside and got little more than a perfunctory apology. They did better the next morning shuttling us to the Port of Miami, but they clearly need more staff and/or an additional shuttle bus. For my money, we'll stay elsewhere next time.

    Surprisingly good

    from

Ok so I was very wary of staying in a Hampton Inn as I always tend to stay at the Westin or similar quality hotels. When we first arrived the snob in me came out trying to find anything I could wrong with the hotel. I couldn't though. Myself and my boyfriend stayed a week and honestly after a day there I was so happy that we decided on the Hampton Inn.

Choose carefully at this price point.

    from

This hotel is not easy to find and whilst it's location looks a little downmarket, the hotel itself is fairly new and in good condition generally.

    Excellent Value and Location

    from

I stayed two nights at this property. It is above average for the Hampton Inn brand. My king room was clean, nicely appointed and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was standard, but clean. If you have a car the parking is free (rare in this part of Miami) and it is easy to get to US 1, Dadeland Mall and the Palmetto expressway. If you have to, you can walk safely to the Dadeland Mall and the Metrorail station, but as in the rest of Miami, walking is not the best option. The AAA rate I got was less than 1/2 the rate I was offered at the less convenient Courtyard.

Wonderful stay pre and post cruise

    from

We always use tripadvisor to choose a hotel and once again they came through. We were very happy with our stay. Candice (one of the Managers) took wonderful care of us. The pool and hot tub were very clean and nice. They have a shuttle that will take you locally to have dinner and shop at the mall. The area is very upscale. We were very happy with our stay. We will use this hotel again when sailing out of Miami.

    A confortable place

    Hampton Inn Miami Dadeland review

    Excellent.

    from

The Hampton Inn Miami Dadeland was expensive ($105 a night published price), and only 3* but was amazing in every way. Rooms, foyer, pool, hot tubs and business centre were all outstanding, close to that of a 5* hotel. The breakfast was quite good. The location was outstanding, walking distance from Dadeland Mall. The only thing I thought could be improved was the staff service, which wasnt poor, but there was only 1 staff member and 1 lifeguard on duty at a time, which means they played then roles of concierge, purser, housekeeper, agent e.t.c But overall an EXCELLENT hotel, I would definately recommend it.

    Great hotel

    from

Nice clean hotel. Had a nice complementary continental breakfast. And free transportation from the airport and to the cruise port with very little wait. Was close to a shopping mall with free transportation although we didn't use this. The pool was very plain and small. We didn't use it as we arrived late and left early for the port. We would definitely stay there again, mostly for the free transportation.

    Clean & Friendly

    from

Inn was very clean, Staff friendly. Shuttle service from the airport was very prompt upon arrival, on time with departure. This saved from sometimes disturbing taxi rides. Cindy
