Waking up to sunshine for a change we headed out early to make the most of the weather... while it lasted. We could think of nowhere better to go than directly to the beach! On our walk we came across 'Miami Ink'.
After grabbing smoothies for brekky we set up at the beach to relax and enjoy the fine weather. We went for a swim and were pleasantly surprised how warm the water was - approximately 28°C. There was a bit of seaweed along the shoreline but ...
... the lorakeets, a type of parakeet. That afternoon we took the "Millionaire's mansion tour" on Biscayne Bay. The 1.5 hour cruise takes you past the estates of the rich and famous, as well as the cruise ship dock...our destination on Sunday! After the tour we headed back to the Hyatt for another rousing game of "train dominoes", the Dove family never tires of beating me at new types of games.
Tomorrow...off on our cruise...
... some of Hazel and Ruby's best friends :-) Our first few days in Fort Lauderdale were pretty lazy. A lot of sleeping eating and drinking was done and some quality beach time was enjoyed. Good times :-) By day 3 we felt we shoulda start being a bit more pro-active so we spoke to the nice man at Rent-a-banger who paired us up with Rio the Kia who was to be our noble chariot for the next two weeks. Once we were mobile, we headed to the Outdoor Store to buy ourselves a tent and ...
At the height of the Florida land boom George Merrick had a vision that would become 'The City of Coral Gables'. His first public building was the Coral Gables Congregational Church founded in 1923 in honor of his father Solomon, a Congregational minister. Then, in 1924, Merrick partnered with the Biltmore hotel magnate John McEntee Bowman to build 'a great hotel...which would not only serve as a hostelry to the crowds thronging to Coral Gables but also would ...

The place was amazing. Really nice rooms and tidy. Although we had a smelly room to start with, we didnt have trouble swapping immediately to another room. The staff were real friendly and helped us with everything.

Historical Traveler Reviews Hampton Inn Miami Dadeland
Beware the airport shuttle
The Hampton Inn-Dadeland is a fairly ordinary hotel in a rather obscure location (though within walking distance of a large mall...if that's what you're looking for). Our major complaint was the amount of time it took for the free shuttle to collect us from the airport. We phoned at 2:55 pm and were told the shuttle was about to leave with arrival around 3:20 pm. At 3:45 we phoned back only to be informed that "it had just left". We wasted 1 hr and 40 minutes waiting curbside and got little more than a perfunctory apology. They did better the next morning shuttling us to the Port of Miami, but they clearly need more staff and/or an additional shuttle bus. For my money, we'll stay elsewhere next time.
Ok so I was very wary of staying in a Hampton Inn as I always tend to stay at the Westin or similar quality hotels. When we first arrived the snob in me came out trying to find anything I could wrong with the hotel. I couldn't though. Myself and my boyfriend stayed a week and honestly after a day there I was so happy that we decided on the Hampton Inn.
The breakfast was included with our stay and although it mightn't compare to some other hotels, I found that the choice of food was wide enough for me to enjoy. We had free wireless internet in our room which is really a bonus as in the likes of the Westin you would pay $10 a day at the very least!! We were able to get free newspapers every single day from the front desk. The location was great as Dadeland Mall was right behind the hotel and Dolphin Mall wasn't that far away.
The only thing I could possibly compain about is that one morning we gave the receptionist some documents to fax while we were heading out. When we came back the receptionist had changed and we enquired with her whether our fax had been sent. She did not know anything about it and couldn't even find the documents we handed in earlier. She was very nice about it and tried ringing the other receptionist at home to enquire but couldn't get a hold of her. We were a bit annoyed when we went back to the reception the next day to ask the original girl and she told us that she had thrown our documents in the trash when we hadn't arrived back. If I was a business person staying there and had needed copies of that document for my files I would have been seriously pissed!!!
We had to leave a few days early and the hotel had absolutely no problem in not charging us for those days we couldn't stay.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Choose carefully at this price point.
This hotel is not easy to find and whilst it's location looks a little downmarket, the hotel itself is fairly new and in good condition generally.
Reception were efficient and our room was clean and tidy. Although the hotel is not in central Miami, the city is about 20 Minutes drive away and the metro rail station is a short five-minute walk. We found the metro rail to be convenient, efficient and cheap ($1.50) and I would highly recommend it for those who wish to have a look at the central downtown Miami area.
The breakfast is okay, a bit below what I would expect compared to Embassy Suites which is a similar price. The hotel is also within walking distance of the new Dadeland mall, which has a substantial number of shops including Macy's and J. C. Penney.
There is a free wireless Internet access throughout the hotel.
Our stay was made less pleasant by the fact that our bathroom plumbing was faulty and started leaking during our stay, creating a pretty foul smell. We were moved pretty quickly when we reported the problem.
Housekeeping were miserable, neglecting to attend to our room properly on any night. When I went to see housekeeping to advise them that they had only half finished our room (beds unmade etc), the maid who spoke very little English was really rude, causing me to see the hotel duty manager in order to get our room serviced! Should this happen at a Hampton Inn?!?
These two unfortunate events spoiled what was otherwise an OK stay. However Hampton Inns have a 100% moneyback satisfaction guarantee, so I claimed back one of our four nights due to the issues.
Overall the hotel has some positive points, but I feel we could have found a better located hotel for the same money ($150/night) if we had the time.
Excellent Value and Location
I stayed two nights at this property. It is above average for the Hampton Inn brand. My king room was clean, nicely appointed and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was standard, but clean. If you have a car the parking is free (rare in this part of Miami) and it is easy to get to US 1, Dadeland Mall and the Palmetto expressway. If you have to, you can walk safely to the Dadeland Mall and the Metrorail station, but as in the rest of Miami, walking is not the best option. The AAA rate I got was less than 1/2 the rate I was offered at the less convenient Courtyard.
Wonderful stay pre and post cruise
We always use tripadvisor to choose a hotel and once again they came through. We were very happy with our stay. Candice (one of the Managers) took wonderful care of us. The pool and hot tub were very clean and nice. They have a shuttle that will take you locally to have dinner and shop at the mall. The area is very upscale. We were very happy with our stay. We will use this hotel again when sailing out of Miami.
A confortable place
I was there with my wife and a daughter from January 2nd. to January 9th.
The location is good, since it is near Dadeland Mall (two blocks) and 1 block from Dadeland Station, where you can get the Miami subway (that is not subway, but runs on the surface.) Through this train you have acces to a lot of different important places, including Downtown, Vizcaya, and also connects with another transport system that is free and goes around downtown Miami.
The hotel is very confortable. The staff is very friendly and make your stay really nice: Claudia, Sebastian, Antonio, and other members of the staff are always available for helping.
The rooms are confortable. I am posting a picture of the room where we where. Two double beds, one big TV, Pay per view options, a working desk, a small table with chairs...In the bathroom hair dryer, a coffeee maker with available coffe everyday.
This hotel has additional value as a room for Internet access, another place for exercises with some machines, a very good continental breakfast and whole day self-service availability of tea, coffee and sometimes, hot chocolate. The breakfast room can accommodate an appropriate number of persons at the same time. The hotel also has a Jacuzzi and a pool. In every floor there is a vending maching and a ice machine.
The price was very good for the service. I paid 124 USD/night for three persons.
I would stay in this hotel again.
I would like to use this post also to show my appreciation to the former users that posted their experience in this and other hotels. They have guide me through good choices. I think I am paying back when I post my own experiences. Thanks.
Pre cruise stay, great hotel
Hampton Inn Miami Dadeland review
Just back from a cruise on RCCL Radiance of the Seas and wanted to post our experience with the Hampton Inn Miami Dadeland. I reserved a room for one night pre cruise on the Hampton inn web site at the promotional "hit the road" room rate. It was $111.60 plus taxes of 14.51 for a total bill of $126.11 for the Saturday night 1/7/2006.
I have always been pleased with Hampton Inn hotels and this property lived up to my expectations. The room was clean, the lobby staff courteous and efficient, and the breakfast was very good.
The two main reasons I chose this property were my positive impressions of Hampton Inn's and the free airport and cruise port shuttle. As our flight arrived too late, 9:30 Pm, to plan any sight seeing in Miami we just wanted a room and transportation to the cruise port the following day.
You must call the hotel for the Airport shuttle once you have collected your luggage, we called and we were fortunate that the shuttle was at the airport already and came back around to collect us; our wait time was less than 10 min. The shuttle was full but provided a comfortable and quick 20 min ride to the hotel.
The Hotel-airport shuttle has limited hours, make sure your flights fall within the shuttle hours of operation, had our flights been delayed we would have missed the last shuttle.
When you check in to the hotel they schedule you for a cruise port shuttle time. They currently have two hotel-cruise port runs per day, one at 9:30 Am and one at 11:00 Am. The 9:30 AM shuttle was filled so we were scheduled for the 11:00 Am shuttle. When we checked out it became obvious that they had way over booked the shuttle to the cruise port for 11:00 Am. We were lucky and got seats but two couples were very upset & frustrated that they had been told they were on the 11:00 am shuttle but no seats were available. I am told that a taxi from this hotel to the cruise port is about $40.
We were very satisfied with our stay at this Hampton Inn and the transportation provided, BUT if I had been left standing watching the 11:00 Am cruise port shuttle drive off after reserving seats this review would not be as favorable. Curious about the outcome of the folks that were left off the shuttle I called the hotel and asked how it was resolved. Candice informed me that the hotel offered to run another shuttle at 12:30 to take them to the port but they did not want to wait so they took a taxi.
The Hampton Inn Miami Dadeland was expensive ($105 a night published price), and only 3* but was amazing in every way. Rooms, foyer, pool, hot tubs and business centre were all outstanding, close to that of a 5* hotel. The breakfast was quite good. The location was outstanding, walking distance from Dadeland Mall. The only thing I thought could be improved was the staff service, which wasnt poor, but there was only 1 staff member and 1 lifeguard on duty at a time, which means they played then roles of concierge, purser, housekeeper, agent e.t.c But overall an EXCELLENT hotel, I would definately recommend it.
Nice clean hotel. Had a nice complementary continental breakfast. And free transportation from the airport and to the cruise port with very little wait. Was close to a shopping mall with free transportation although we didn't use this. The pool was very plain and small. We didn't use it as we arrived late and left early for the port. We would definitely stay there again, mostly for the free transportation.
Clean & Friendly
Inn was very clean, Staff friendly. Shuttle service from the airport was very prompt upon arrival, on time with departure. This saved from sometimes disturbing taxi rides. Cindy
