... the heart of old Memphis where we find block after block of buildings either undergoing renovation or empty and up for lease. It is a low-rise city with most buildings between 5 to 10 floors. Many of the old buildings, dating from the turn of the century to the 1940's, have been cleaned up and exhibit beautiful stonework and detailing of the time, some are commercial and others converted to lofts and condominiums. The city is maintaining its ties to the past through ...
Memphis TN, Tennessee, United States nanseajWe hit a bit of a rough patch with Lola but I'm going to let it go unmentioned.
We blew through Memphis, over the Mississippi River (big and fast), and into Arkansas before taking the first exit back into Tennessee and into Memphis once again. But hey, now I've been to Tennessee twice, haha. We had a hard time finding where to park Lola but soon found something half managedable, although we're not entirely sure that place was legit ...
... trying to navigate our way from Houston to Washington DC. We've tried to mix with the locals as much as possible along the way, which has been interesting. More trouble than it's worth for the most part. For instance, I have been accused of stealing credit cards, pretty ironic when I think of how much money has been nicked from me on this trip and had drinks with someone who turned out to be nothing more than a complete racist ...
West Memphis, Arkansas, United States holliday... proceeds go to them), there were so many busses going in and out and it was a weekday. We did the budget tour and looked over the fence, ha, ha. There were many other travellers doing the same. From the front of the property you could see the main house, the yard, entry way and stables. Across the street they had Elvis's planes, yep both of them, also on display. Totally cool.

Other facilities on the property include a large carport for his various cars and motorcycles, a swimming pool, flower gardens, statues, fountains, a 2 ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States jimcabay... you were looking at played. It made you want to dance, especially when 60s style jukebox music came on, but you know what i mean. It was really good. After that i saw the Elvis Statue and got the shuttle back to my hotel and relaxed and watched tv for the night. (They even have a channel devoted to Elvis movies, and another with just pictures on the screen and Elvis radio playing songs to them, yes they have an Elvis radio station!!) The next morning i woke up to rain, not heavy ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States tonestar... there's some debate as to whether he did it, and whether he was working alone. Again, they'd recreated the bathroom from where the shots were actually fired. Perhaps it was the relief at surviving a whole two and a half hours on the streets of Mugphis without a robbing incident, but I felt the need for treats. So I had a whole carton of hagen-daaz in bed. Oh yeah!
Memphis, Tennessee, United States vicaroo... same place I go. I still continue swimming and as the weather is getting better, I might get back into running. There is a triathlon here over the next 2 months, which I am trying to get my brother to come and join me, after all it is only fair, since he got me into doing a 5 borough bike ride around NY at the beginning of May. What have I done? Biking is not my thing, I am just counting on my cycling shorts to provide the maximum cushion support for my behind! But I know I ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States s_sarkardei... and my only complaint is that Lily is growing up way too fast. After a nice holiday get-together at their friends' home, we put Lily to bed and played guitar on the back porch till our fingers were paralyzed by a combination of whiskey and freezing temperatures. Adam is also a Physical Therapist and he showed me his new clinic the next day which is in a really cool old house. Could be a great place to work when I'm ready to settle down. Unfortunately, the ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States jarodcarter108... an important center of the American Civil Rights movement.
LDS Church history in Memphis began in early 1835 when a young Wilford Woodruff became the first LDS missionary to visit the city. In the face of local opposition, the Church grew slowly and consisted of a single small branch meeting in a converted house as recently as forty years ago. Since that time, however, it has grown to two stakes, and the Memphis Temple was dedicated April 23, 2000.
