Lexington, Kentucky, United States sarah.scampiniWe took off with the fifth wheel up to Lexington, KY, where we would see some champion horses at Juddmonte Farms. That evening, when we got in to Lexington, we checked in at the RV park at the Kentucky Horse Park. It's quite a nice area. Then we went and ate at Bob's Big Boy, where Ashley had (what else??) a bacon cheeseburger! ;-)

On Saturday morning, we started the day off in fine Southern ...
Lexington, Kentucky, United States semitte... try to be drinking mint juleps in a bar with a good TV at 6:24pm - but we discovered that Berea (and many other towns and counties hereabouts) is a dry town - so no bars, no mint juleps! Which would explain why "Derby parties" are all the thing, you can only drink mint juleps in the privacy of someone's home.... So we missed that. BUT we did stumble on a Berea eatery with live bluegrass music ...

They were here to finalize the purchase of their retirement home in Richmond, KY. Chris just retired from his job as an Air Traffic Controller in Boston and was on duty when one of his airplanes flew into the Twin Towers in New York on 9/11. After this one and half hour delay I continued north and found some terrific roads that twist and turn through the hills of North Carolina and Tennessee. The most famous twisty road in the area is known as The Dragon that begins at Deals Gap and runs north. In eleven miles there are three hundred and ...
Lexington, Kentucky, United States jstephenscaToday, I drove from Louisville to Lexington to have lunch with a friend. The horse ranches around the area are gorgeous -- clearly gentlemen ranchers, not true farmers. I saw lots of men in camouflage, so I decide NOT to walk in the woods, lest I be mistaken ...
