"Mojave" Translation: People who live near water

A travel blog entry by lisajagmin

Today was filled with desert--the Mojave!! We took highway 99 to 58 and passed the most amazing wind farms. I think they look imposing, like some kind of other-worldly army whose sole mission is to produce energy for the masses. But they have an elegance as well. Vegas appeared out of the heat the same as always--an apparition, or perhaps better …

"Muy Caliente!" Translation: Very Hot!

A travel blog entry by lisajagmin

Chris had a lot of work to do after the long, holiday weekend, so I read the paper from front to back out by the pool, then ran across the street with him for an early "in n out burger" lunch. Afterward, I took the hotel shuttle over to the strip and walked up one side and down the other, reviewing all the hotels, shops, restaurants and …

"Muy rico" Translation: Very tasty

A travel blog entry by lisajagmin

After my long, hot walk of yesterday, I decided to take it easy and just lounge around the pool. When Chris was able to take a break we drove to a taco stand near the airport for breakfast/lunch. The woman there was from Guadalajara and was very eager to please, although she substituted red salsa for green, and steak for chicken. We just shrugged …

We made it

The last leg of our journey was back to Las Vegas and given that we had done a helicopter flight into the Grand Canyon last time we were here (in 1996), we decided to have a sleep in till 6:30am. To be honest it was good to just lay around for an hour or so until our bus was due to leave a 8:45am. Our tour guide had yet more surprises in store for …

When you think the TROP, remember plop!!!!!

    from anonymous

Stayed at thë "TROP'' for four nights, in the tower rooms. The rooms were not too bad, thats where it ended. The food was terrible, greasy, greasy, greasy. I felt the casino had a real çheesy' feel to it, and terrible pay0outs (no machines going off, everyone was complaining). The entire staff were less than rude and grouchy. The brochure looks so much nicer. The only good thing about my experience was the comedy(comedy at the trop), good show. Dont waste your hard earned dollars here, its lucky they got 2 stars from me, more like 1. 5 stars.

    Thank you

Slow service at Calypso's and the coffee is awful; drinks few and far between at the slots, shower heads too low, need to flush toilets three times, maids did not clean rooms well. On the positive side, room was quiet, Savanna's and Tuscany restaurants were great -excellent service and friendly staff. Calypso's should go there for coffee!

    Excellent Hotel

    from SpunkyPony

We stayed at this hotel 9/4 to 9/7. The hotel and grounds are very well kept. Our room was very nice and well furnished. The free 24 hour shuttle service was the best and most accommodating of any I have EVER experienced. I recommend this hotel without reservation.

The only place with 24hr shuttle

    from anonymous

It was great! Wonderful staff! Love the shuttle which is available 24 hours. Love it and will be there again this Labor Day weekend with 13 other girls!

    Adequate but...

    from anonymous

The room was adequate and the employees more than courtious. Problems: Internet service in the room is nothing to brag about. The T.V is your screen and is non-readable. The service is dial-up and slower than...well. Slow.

Internet is not available unless a wireless remote is used in the hotel lobby (which can be very busy.)

A fed-x package was misplaced but found an hour later. Again... the staff was courtious and very diligant in locating the package.

This is your basic hotel. No frills. The carpet in our room was worn and bunching up in places. The ottoman was torn but another one was brought in immediately to replace it. The room was clean with an airconditioner that worked non-stop.

If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs due to the air conditioner going on an off all night.

    The hotel is quite otherwise.

    Good times at the Tropicana

We were there for a family reunion in June and the hotel was wonderful. They have a friendly and fun atmosphere. The staff is so helpful and courteous.

A nice alternative to casino hotel fare

    from MrBix

We found this to be an attractive and well-maintained Hampton Inn. We booked a room through a web-based travel agency and paid about $117 for a room with two queen beds. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. The pool area was clean and the water was crystal clear. This Inn had a large eating area for the complimentary breakfast, and the breakfast offerings were varied and plentiful.

    Excellent!

    from anonymous

I stayed here for business. It was terrific! The rooms were immaculate. The shuttle made it easy to get to and from the Strip. Only gripe, the pool is way too cold. No one went in. I would return for leisure ways. A great hotel!

    Had a good trip

    from anonymous

Great place to stay for an inexpensive visit to Vegas. Clean rooms that didn't smell like bug spray. Air conditioning that was quiet and in good working order. Great European breakfast. The pool had towels for sunbathing but could have used more lounge chairs. Shuttle to run you to a few casinos if you didn't have the transportation. We rented a car. All in all it was a great place to stay for the money. We went through price line and worried alittle but we didn't have a problem with our stay. I even left a number of items and they are FedEx ing them to me.

    Mixed review

    from up616

My wife and I stayed at this Hampton Inn after Christmas last year. We loved to stay at the Hampton Inns when we travel across the country because they usually have very nice service: room was clean and the breakfast was good. We had our best experience with the Hampton Inn when we visited the Rolla in Missouri. If you are visiting Rolla, Missouri, be sure to stay there. You will not be disappointed! However, our experience with the Hampton Inn Tropicana at Las Vegas was not all pleasant. In the middle of the night, I noticed a bug was crawling on the wall next to TV. The carpet was not very clean either. On the positive side, the staffs were very friendly and the location was good.

But we probably won't stay there on our next visit to Vegas because for the same price, we could find some place nicer.
