Stuck overnight

Got stuck overnight in Houston due to United changing plane arrangements. They put us up in this motel about 3 miles from the airport and surrounded by NOTHING, no grocery stores, no bars, barely a gas station convience store. The food was terrible, I suggest you save your vouchers for the airport restaurants.

... on Tuesday. We will spend one night and most of the next day there. Then we're departing for Norway where we will have two stops on Friday and Saturday. After viewing those beautiful fjords (not really sure what that is), we head toward Iceland with a stop in the Faroe Islands on Monday. We arrive at our first Icelandic stop (Gundarfjörour) on Wednesday and then on ...

... morning. As we were waiting, security opened a second station to check IDs and tickets. I was relieved because I thought that would speed up the process. As soon as I passed through the next entry though, that is where I saw the real bottleneck, as usual, the x-ray machines. We managed to get through all of that with about another hour to go. Whew. Plenty of time!

Then. We noticed signs with the American flag on it, pointing us ...

... When we arrived we went straight into the theatre to watch a film that interviewed survivors and gave us some insights into what they endured and their views on life today. It was very sobering. One of the men described how he and his father were very close to each other and if one of them was to be whipped, whoever was feeling strongest at the time would take the punishment. If they took the whipping in place of the other, then ...

    Day 8 - Heading home

Going home: San Jose to Houston to Birmingham Time to head home. I woke up about 5:30, and Dee got up about 15 minutes later. We sat on the balcony while the sky lightened with the sunrise behind us. I reminded Dee that we had a 90-day visa, so we didn't have to legally leave Costa Rica for 82 more days. But I have to go back to work Monday, so we started packing. The driver ...
