    In a couple of hours we'll be leaving Holland to begin the first leg of our journey. Somehow leaving on September 11 feels appropriate because, as tragic as it was, this day above all others reminds me of the strength and courage of Americans, both now and in those early days of the founding of the original colonies.

    When we arrived on the lot, it was drizzling rain and Alex was wearing his rain suit to park us. Since it was laundry day and we felt no need to rush out of there in the rain to load up the Excursion, we set an alarm and went back to bed.

    ... to run this. It's 17.1 miles of mountain terrain from Ouray up and over 13,000 foot mountain peaks and down into Telluride. It could be sunny one minute and snowing the next.     ... to return. One day the forest areas around here developed a haze of green and then leaves came out the next days. You could almost see the leaves growing. Some trees blossomed in one day.
