Outside of the pictures I've taken, there doesn't appear to be much left of Centralia. All of the abandoned homes have been demolished, the paved streets are slowly being taken over by undergrowth. Unfortunately the most prominent thing you'll see is trash and litter from inconsiderate visitors.
... goes right through them, so you can normally find a ride if needed or get information from any local you see on the street, and there is generally an abundance of hiker amenities. Duncannon seemed to be the exception from the very little experience I had with it. It wasn't that people were unfriendly or anything, but there just didn't seem to be much around to help hikers except a map of the town on a sign by the trail as you entered. My boat crew was made up of a Vietnam era Marine (yellow PFD), two Army Reserve CGOs (two in the middle) and a Airman (back left behind bucket) who worked in Iraq as a Combat Controller before leaving the service. His wife (far left front) was also with us.
A lot has happened since I was last able to make a post. I got back on the trail after my time off and had to get back into the swing of things. I was greeted with the infamous "Virginia Rollercoaster". This part of the trail consists of 13 back to back climbs and descents that lead into Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Bags are packed! Very early by our normal standards but then it is not every day that we set off to explore Argentina then set sail for the Antarctica. A rain, freezing rain, snow event has the potential to make our Tuesday departure from JFK interesting........
