So interesting to feel these little differences between countries!
Here (and Wiki says also in the UK, Australia and another country I forgot), you buy a mobile phone and a "carrier" (we would call it a provider) together. Having an "unlocked" mobile phone and buy a SIM card independently is something they very seldom do here!

I hurried to a travel agency, had a flight booked from Portland to Vancouver (thank you credit card!), hurried back to the desk with that ticket, and yes, I was allowed to proceed. Ouf!

... out cars and police drove straight past us. So we all just figured it must have been obama! So with that we went to get some picys of the white house along with quite a few other tourists. We then wandered over to the huge washington monument and then to the WII memorial. All monumented out we headed to the tidal basin where holly and phil managed to convince everyone that we should hire pedalos. ... Spinoso. Lorenzo is a great story teller, we had some good laughs. Patrick told us about his latin lessons, Anna talked a little Chinese, and finally Wilma brought out her old photo album, upon my request, to show ourselves in military uniform... hee, 32 years ...

Wilma and Steve came to get me at Dulles airport, we talked a lot, so nice to see them again. I was here 15 years ago, and I kind of remembered things, but not completely...
The house is still so nicely nestled amongst the trees, the "deck" (the terrace at the back) is now finished and has many feathered visitors (I still have to see a Cardinal and a Blue Jay) ...
