    Day 8: The long drive home & final budget

    ... and oh so yummy. Matt goes nuts over the teppanyaki. His favorite meal!)

    It ended up taking us 12 hours to make the "short" 8 hour drive. So much for our plans to get home early!

    So this is the final detailed budget tally. Turned out to be a pretty low-cost vacation - especially since we did many "bucket list" activities that are typically super expensive.

    It's SUMMERtime in the Great Smoky Mountains

    ... sleep up to 12ppl in Robbinsville, North Carolina, overlooking the Smoky Mountains. All for a measly $90 a night!! (plus cleaning fee)

    The cabin is close to the park - but the other side of the park. 20 mins to one entrance at Fontana Dam, 20 mins to the entrance at Deep Creek (tubing), about 45 mins to the other entrance at Oconoluftee. BUT took us 2.5 hrs to get from cabin to the Gatlinburg entrance. ...

    ... Mass, studying the Bible, becoming a member of the Resurrection Choir, and saying the Rosary on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at OLV. Those activities have given me a great deal of solace.

    I am about to embark on training to become a Stephen Minister at Our Lady of Victory. That study will be intense. So, it was fitting that Kathleen and I go on a trip about icons before we do not have the time for journeys around Michigan.
