    Andersonville excursion

A travel blog entry by sethfield on May 02, 2015

As my time in Columbus came to an end, I made a daylong excursion to the Civil War prison site at Andersonville, an hour to the east of Fort Benning. The prison site itself consisted of little more than an open field with scattered memorials and other prison key points such as Wirz's Headquarters and the famous Providence Spring, but the guided tour of the site was very informative ...

Today’s trip is to the town of Andersonville, Georgia and the prisoner of war camp near there, Fort Sumter. It’s in Sumter County Georgia. On to the Little White House. There is a small museum at the site with ...

We get up to a gray and cloudy day. Rain is forecast for South Georgia—that's us! Well we go anyway. Hopefully the things we want to do in Plains will be mostly inside.

We’re having a terrible time with internet connections. Even going up to the office did not helped. We’ll just have to make do with phones for emergencies.

Plains is a very small southern town with ...

Arrival at the Brickyard Golf This campground was a first. The lady came out to meet us in a golf cart, took us to our site, and said, “Just go up to the office tomorrow in the morning to pay.” It’s not a fancy campground, but it’s a place to hang our hat for a few days. The internet connections are non-existent on my computer. ...
