... access to water to our water pump and was puzzled about our lack of water. Our Smart Car loosened from its' tie downs and tried to escape from the trailer. Luckily no major damage. We check it at every stop but we traveled several really rough roads today. That's all the news, except Tom left Peggy in the Walmart with no money to pay for her ice cream. Although the memorial has been constructed for a while, a new visitor center is due to open later this year. They are installing a walkway from the visitor center, through a grove of newly planted trees, and over a pedestrian bridge to the site. We hope to go back again in the future.
... to the wall of names carved in Marble. The Marble wall as well as the new Visitors Center is constructed along the flight path to the point of impact. At that point of rest, there is a large sandstone boulder that is original. There are 40 groves of trees being reintroduced into this large meadow. This was an area that had been strip mined. ... back. It is cool to be swimming in deep water--most of the creeks I've swum on on this hike are pretty shallow. This might actually be my favorite swimming hole on this hike. ... back home for some beers (my parents brought us a 12 pack of Great Lakes Dortmunder, our favorite beer ever from Cleveland, Ohio) and we enjoyed conversation and drinks before heading back home. We ended our day by watching the episode "Sexy Knickers" from the first season of Are You Being Served?, a top notch British comedy from the early 70s that I grew up watching (my dad's a huge fan of the show) and introduced to John 15 years ago, making him a fan also.
