Today we drove into Sacramento so that I could see the capitol. It was even prettier than I expected it to be--not as impressive as Denver's, but more old-world like Montgomery. On our way out of town we saw an old steam engine train crossing the main street. It looked as if it carried tourists--I managed to get a photo. We ...
Bakersfield, California, United States lisajagminHow quickly things change without even leaving yet. Due to the heat, we decided to split the original first day's trip into two. First night we are staying at http://www.oasislasvegasrvresort.com Yes, I know it's roughing it (they only have 20 cable channels), but it beats driving ten hours on the first day.
We have been planning our "epic" trip across the West for some time ...
After breakfast (where Greg dined on the unforgivably opulent lobster and asparagus omelette) we left Sin City and headed for Bakersfield, California. In hindsight, we both concluded that Vegas wasn't really anything special and that to make the journey to the US purely to visit this one place would be a completely wasted opportunity. As we trundled across California the desert gave way ...
Bakersfield, California, United States pjarowi1... she was getting visas for had to fill out new documents. We went back up to the 3rd floor and asked the guard about these forms that had to be filled out. He told us that the forms were online. We had to let Nate and Mike know about these forms, can't get any visas without them. So it is back to L.A. tomorrow to start all over with the process and the big concern, can we get our visa before we must leave.
Bakersfield, California, United States miss.chris... for the rest of us - and he decided at the last moment - after I had bought the changeable-but-non-refundable airline ticket - not to go. Well, I am not one to let an airline ticket go to waste. So, I'm off to Ireland, come the end of this month. But where to go? What are the must see things of Ireland? How many days to spend in each place? (Due to the inconvenience of ...
Bakersfield, California, United States pamelaannAutiomaasta herattyamme jatkettiin taas matkaa.
Bakersfield, California, United States mirka_blog... Ron and Nancy to a little Japanese Restaurant. The food was great, service a little lacking (forgot our Miso) but overall we had a great night. Day 3 Richelle woke up rip-roaring to go and check out downtown LA...Ron even gave us a choice outline of where to go and a walking tour brochure. Unfortunately Mik was tired, and we didn't make it that far. We got to Santa Monica, which was a top spot. We went into a camping shop and got a nasty surprise, the ...
Los Angeles, California, United States mikelis... to abandon the in-car sleeping and shell out for a old motel. We huddled round the zoo, surprising a few animals not expecting to receive visitors in the snow. The Anheuser-Busch brewery (Budweiser) is fantastic, with a selection of their 250 Clydesdales living in luxury in the stunning on-site brewery stables. Full of blues, jazz and frozen custard we headed off on the final leg across the frozen Mississippi towards Chicago. Illinois In the dark we were stopped twice by ...
All those on Route 66, United States williebobs... I rolled on past Keene and Caliente (hot) to Bakersfield. Balersfield is an ugly town, populated by Black and Hispanic laborers and farmhands fighting to hold back poverty. The city sprawls amidst rolling, rounded hills and grasslands, with many oil wells and wide level fields lush with irrigated crops. Forest-like clusters of windmills spin out clean electric power. The disparity between the townspeople and the surrounding wealth ...
