Today was the long travel day to start the trip, dedicated to getting as close to the East Coast as we could in one day. We covered 840 miles as we traveled out of Texas and then across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and then into Georgia.

... 1966. I was in my last year at Exeter High School, and we lived on Deerhill Road in Brentwood. Every Sunday we would hear the dragsters roar down the strip. I only went a couple of times back then; the funny cars were the best. The New England Dragway is the only 1/4 mile drag strip in New England, although they don't actually race that distance anymore. I'm just a wealth of known-essential info.

Today we had an early breakfast and off we drove towards Ellijay...except I took over the GPS and promptly got lost...around a town called Winder....drove around in a circle for awhile....we eventually we reached Amicalola Falls....it was a lovely day and the walk to the falls was pretty but not spectacular.....we also walked up to the lodge which is at the top ...
Woke up around doing 8 and had breakfast in the hotel...pretty good actually. Then we were off to Wakinsville first which is a tiny village about 15 min from Athens. It's not big b.ut after a few wrong turns we found the Elder Mill covered bridge outside the town.. It's a pretty area with rolling hills and large cattle/horse farms. We then went to Monroe for coffee ?.small , not exciting town. Then we went back to Athens and spent the afternoon at the Georgia State ...
