... ice to fill our Camelbacks. But, we arrived and the sign said they were only open Friday through Monday (it was Tuesday). Grrrr - it did not say that in the state park guide book I was reading!! So, we decided to just find a cute town and stay the night, as it was already fairly late in the afternoon and it looked like rain. We thought about Helotes, but ended up in Boerne, which was a great choice.

Went to the King Ranch today! This is about 50 miles south of Corpus Christi really not a bad drive. Actually a little chilly today 68 and cloudy. We arrived at the ranch around 11:00 am...we actually got up and went out that early! This was a tour of the ranch...this is the largest working ranch in Texas with about 65,000 heads of cattle. This ranch also has quarter horses...they had a triple crown winner back in the ...

... throughs in the boot of the car and just took the necessities into the accommodations in the carryons. I had the extra check-through loaded with items for Anchoress, and it came back full of jams and other goodies. The bubble wrap I took protected the jams quite nicely and we are still enjoying them.

We could have saved a bit by having more picnic lunches, which I had intended to do, but for some reason we usually ended up in a pub or ...
