This is the first day of our two week trip to South Carolina and Virginia. We drove from home and made it to the border crossing in good time and didn't have to spend any time there as we had already done the clearances last time we travelled.
Stopped off a couple of times for a break and once for dinner at Red Robin in a town I forgot to …
... It probably took more gas to find the place than the money we got for the cans, but it was another adventure. This was a gigantic recycling plant, which I will send info about to our local recycling guru, Madonna. Altogether, our month's worth of cans netted $2.02. Anybody who knows us well, knows that I drink 4-6 cans a day of diet coke, and John limits himself to one beer per day and part of my coke., so ...
Travel 30 miles down the Skyline Drive Road to Big Meadows campground. It is an older campground than Mathews Arm and not as nice. The campsites are more open and not as large. Hard to find a site to fit a 32 foot Motorhome! The one thing this campground has are showers which we dont use. We settle in and read for the afternoon then walk around the campground!
It gets windy and cold later so no fire tonight. Rains in the night!

You are up at around 3,000 feet the whole time so it can get cool this time of year! As we enter the park we see that 2 of the 4 parks are already FULL and it is only 12:30, we realize it is Saturday! As you drive along the ...

We shopped a bit, cooked a bit, enjoyed other people's cooking, we ate out on the porch overlooking the mountains, discovered a fondness for dark chocolate (damn you chocolate!), played pool until Jimmy couldn't afford to play against us anymore! Enjoyed seeing the Mackay-Smith side of the family again. Especially enjoyed ...
How has this hotel rated in the past?
The room was very comfortable and a good size. However the internet connection was very poor. When we measured it it was just 0.2 - not much faster than dial up.
Also could not get the promised HBO channel on TV.
Only there for one night, so put up with it.
Breakfast was okay, nothing special but okay.
