After a godawful night, we hit the road early, glad to get away from that little hell hole! The countryside didn't improve much as we passed through some oil and gas fields, and some large, dry looking ranches. We returned to Route 66 at Elk City, hoping to have a look at a Farm and Transport Museum, but everything was shut on Sundays, we realised by the large numbers of cars parked at the churches, that this is a bit of a Bible Belt and everyone goes ...
... restaurants on Rt 66 - Silver Moon Cafe (est 1959) and they are now a Mexican Rest. I was bound and determined to have Mexican while we are here in the SW so I got it today. Was real good. I had enchilatas and Joanne had fajitas both were plentiful and we could not finish. We are having ham and salami sandwiches for dinner. Maybe a chip or pretzel but no big meals. We are both about to burst.

Traveling though the Texas panhandle took us by the Cadillac Ranch which has 10 Cadillacs buried hood first into the ground. The 25 years since we were here last has been ******* the cars and many are just a rusting shell. Visitors still come armed with spray paint to add their personal touch to the cars.

We pulled into the Amarillo Ranch RV Park later in the afternoon. We have stayed here in the past and it's a very clean, friendly, reasonable and easy off / easy on interstate park.
