... the Fair, Birmingham put the statue on a 128 ft pedestal on a mountain east of Birmingham. When trying to look at a 57 foot statue that doesn't start until 128 feet up, it's hard to see much detail. They did put in stairs and a elevator to an observation platform close to the top of the pedestal, but that makes it even harder to see the statue, standing right below his feet!

This is the coolest "abandoned factory" type exhibit I have ever seen.Most places like this are fenced off or very limited access for safety reasons but nearly the entire factory is accessible.
