And so to Austin; apart from a brief codicil in Dallas, the final scene in Act II.
In 2012 the FBI ranked Austin as the second safest major city in the U.S. That was comforting, but not necessarily the reason we chose Austin as our Swan Song for Act II of our American odyssey. The colloquial bumper-sticker, "Keep Austin Weird" is closer to the mark...but just between you and me, it was not ...
... for me is how do we know there are "almost" 1.5 million of them (I've heard this very specific count from several different sources) The sympathetic caring side of me asks what crime was committed by the poor individual(s) to be responsible for counting. The cynical side asks who would know if they just guessed?
We arrived into Austin on the Amtrax train and were greeted by our second Couchsurfing host - We hadn't arranged to meet him there and his introduction was slightly odd - in that he started talking away to us as a stranger and after a few minutes he then told us who he was - this may have got us off on the wrong foot.
It was late in the evening and we decided to go for a beer - not before someone tried to rope us into buying them cocktails in the most expensive bar ...

Kathy, coffee at Joe's and then headed back for stage one of the
birthday celebration. For stage 2, we returned to the St. Cecelia, the
Hamiltons and Trucksesses joined us and we swam and talked a little bit.
We retired to Kathy's room for some HomeSlice and Amy's birthday cake

All excited I went straight to the bar to get some beer, while I was waiting I realized that it was karaoke night and the guy that was singing was a little whirred.
