Today we left Shreveport and crossed the Mississippi River at Vicksburg. We turned off the interstate (I-20) shortly after crossing the river and went to the Vicksburg National Military Park. After a lengthy search for an allowed picnicking spot, we enjoyed a picnic and the beautiful day.

We made our way back to the Visitor's Center, watched a movie on the Siege of Vicksburg (see my comments for more details), then drove on ...

... Olympics since the 1930s. While inside, the heavens opened up, I could hear it inside the building just like I can in the school library. It was just about over by the time we left. The next stop was the Eudora Welty House. Eudora was a prolific writer whose work, The Optimist's Daughter, earned her the Pulitzer Prize. We took the tour, first watching an overview movie (4th one today, mind you), and then entering ...

    A day in Vicksburg, MS

... Back at the motel, we did laundry. It was early in the trip, but there were some stains on our pants which we wanted removed. We also called Jeff to wish him a happy birthday. Today was a real buggy day. When we left our motel this morning there was a bug on Jean's window that was with us for quite awhile before flying off. And at the battlefield, whenever we got out, there were all varieties of bugs ...
